The Engineer in reflection

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON - Soldiers of the 56th Engineer Company (Vertical), 6th Engineer Battalion, hone their skills during tactical convoy operations training Aug. 23 on Bulldog Trail, JBER-Richardson. As vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED), complex ambushes employing improvised explosive devices (IED), rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), and small arms continually threaten military convoys in Middle-Eastern theaters of operations, commanders at all echelons must ensure their units are trained in the most effective tactics, techniques, and procedures to counter these threats and mitigate risks to U.S. forces during tactical convoys. Still in the wrapper!

Engineer Soldiers from various Army Reserve and active duty units plunge into the Arkansas River during a training exercise known as a helocast at Fort Chaffee, Ark., Aug. 1, as part of Operation River Assault. The entire River Assault training exercise lasted from July 28 to Aug. 4, 2015, involving one brigade headquarters, two battalions and 17 other units, to include bridging, sapper, mobility, construction and aviation companies. Beaver lodge after Danville, QC. Saw several dams and lodges made by nature's engineers.

This man was interesting. He is the engineer of the little train. He told me about coming to American when he was 34 years old, he's now 77 years old. The photo he is holding is of him when he first came to American. He was very patient and informative. He spoke to Sean in several different languages and asked Sean if he would like to drive the train. He let Sean drive the track about 4 times. I didn't get his name but we will be back and see him again soon.

Caleb and Isabel show me what to do when the carpet turns into hot lava. Luckily, Junia has lava-proof boots on...*invisible* lava-proof boots.

The Los Angeles District marked anniversary 237 of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during their annual event June 29.

Under the commander’s motto “Taking Care of People,” the District converged on the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, Calif.

Engineer Day was the perfect venue to recognize teammates for their decades of service and accomplishments. This year, 78 District employees met the criteria of 10-to 45-years of service. In all, 28 employees were available to receive their award at the event.

Sitting here laughing (and getting paid for it) is Jay the engineer. Twenty-two years of hard labor-seated: his investment. Laughing all the way to the bank is bitter sweet for him. Next time you see bnsf, think of this guy. My son wants to join the railroad. Better have some good pants.
