Summer at the boathouse in Carton House near Maynooth. This idealised landscape is entirely engineered — the copses of trees and the sweeping fields of grass are carefully planned, the lake was created by damming an existing river, and the boathouse is more ornamental than useful!
This British Telecom engineer was installing a line from the telegraph pole to a newly-built house when it became entangled. Despite the snow he climbed the tree to free it. Just the day before, my local supermarket failed to deliver, without warning, due to "adverse weather" conditions. Everyone else was delivering in the road.
In Park Place, Cardiff. Built in 1892 as the headquarters of the South Wales Institute of Engineers.
It's been a nightclub for as long as I can remember. Currently called Cantaloop but it has been known at various times as Dylan's, Brannigans & Creation.

From a found photo album from the late 1920s early 1930s
The album seems to have been compiled by a sailor and shows scenes on board both British Royal Navy and merchant ships, and also a number of snapshots of civilian family life.
The photos are mainly carefully identified in handwritten captions, so some names and many locations are known, as well as dates.
Class 66s from two different FOCs poised at the south end of Crewe Basford Hall yard ready to take part in weekend engineering possession work. On the left is Freightliner's 66956 with a rake of a auto-ballasters and on the right is GB Railfreight's 66758 "The Pavior" which was lined up to work to Stansfield Hall Junction.

Click to Download Jocelyn E. Scott is chief engineer and vice president – DuPont Engineering, Facilities and Real Estate. Ms. Scott joined DuPont in 1984 in the DuPont Photosystems & Electronic Products division in Rochester, N.Y.
From 1984-1995 she has served in numerous engineering, operations and R&D assignments in various DuPont businesses. From 1996 to 2000, she was manager for various Engineering positions.
In 2001, she was named executive assistant to the chairman and CEO. In 2002 she was named director - DuPont Engineering and Research Technology and in 2004 she became director - DuPont Capital Asset Productivity. In 2006 she was named director - DuPont Leveraged Operations. Later in 2006 she became managing director, DuPont Facilities and Capital Asset Productivity. She was named vice president - DuPont Engineering in January 2008 and to her current position September 1, 2008.
Ms. Scott chaired the 2008 CURT (Construction Users Roundtable) National Conference. In addition to participating on various industry advisory boards, she has served on the Committee of Visitors for the Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental and Transport Systems (CBET) of the National Science Foundation. Ms. Scott is a member of the AIChE Foundation Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood of Delaware.
Ms. Scott was recently appointed to the study committee of the National Academy of Engineering to investigate the cause and recommend preventive measures for the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill.
Ms. Scott graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1981. She received a master's degree in Chemical Engineering Practice from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1983 and received a degree of chemical engineer in 1984, also from M.I.T.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Deputy Commanding General and Deputy Chief of Engineers, Maj. Gen. Merdith W.B. (Bo) Temple was the keynote speaker for this ceremony, which marked over 70 years' of hydropower generation and looks forward to another 70 years.
This event marked the end of a 17-year-long project to rebuild the powerhouse at a cost of $140 billion.
Originally built in 1937, the rebuilding improvements yielded an increase of 15% in power generation capacity, and an improvement of 1% in the survival rate of salmon passing through, and improved flexibility in power delivery to coordinate with wind power resources.
