"Gainger Bros Garage was a landmark in the Main Street of Beeac for many years. The business was opened in 1917 by Arthur Gainger and his brother Les.

Arthur ran the business in Beeac and Les was in charge in Colac.

When the business first started, Gaingers sold push bikes, Harley Davidson and Triumph motor bikes and Dort Motor cars. They later sold Fargo utes and De Soto cars. In time they had a very successful Austin car dealership. The cars sold ranged from the little Austin A30 to the Austin Sheerline and the luxurious top of the range Sheerline Princess. They also sold a range of utes and trucks as well as the sporty Austin Healey.

Gainger Bros was probably best known throughout the Beeac and Colac districts for their bus service. The first buses were models of Rio, Federal and the Diamond T.

Later, Austin and Bedford buses were used. They transported children to Colac High and Alvie Consolidated Schools as well as workers and passengers to Colac."

Interior of Templo y Convento de la Santa Cruz (Church and Convent of Santa Cruz).

The convent was built between 1654 and about 1815 on the site of a battle in which a miraculous appearance of Santiago (St James) apparently led to the Otomí surrender to the conquistadors and Christianity.

Emperor Maximilian had his headquarters here while under siege in Querétaro from March to May 1867. After his surrender and subsequent death sentence, he was jailed here while awaiting the firing squad.

Netball clubrooms & court

On our way to our evening meal we passed by the Cafe Toscano outlet (Tosacano Pronto) at a triangle corner between Av. Michoacán & Av. Vicente Suárez.

Cafe Tosacano Pronto commands a prime corner location in the Mercado Michoacán. The market was created in 1946 and the building was designed in the Functionalist style of Modernist architecture.

The Michoacán Market is considered to be “the heart" of La Condesa Colonia.

The conversations.

The silence in between.

The weight of two people sitting close and watching the waves.

Scottish National Gallery

My first visit to this wonderful Gallery since the Covid outbreak. One advantage of the need to book a time slot in advance is that there are not so many other visitors at the same time.

Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Templo de Santa Clara) - Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Of St. Claire is gold gilded to the hilt.

The temple was completed in 1668 and became the seat of the Sacred Heart Parish in 1921.

The Temple of Santa Clara was built by Don Diego de Tapia, son of the founder of Querétaro, Don Fernando de Tapia, also known by his indigenous name of Conin.

At the beginning of the 17th century, owner of a large fortune and father of a daughter named María Luisa, de Tapia was persuaded to found a convent for Poor Clare nuns and for his daughter to take the habit of said order.

On January 8, 1606, the deeds for the foundation of the convent were formalized, through the initial contribution of 50 thousand pesos plus funds necessary for its maintenance.

During the Spanish rule it was one of the largest and most important convents in New Spain. Today only the church and a small annex remain, as a large part of it was destroyed during the Reform War.

At the beginning of the War of Independence, it served as a prison for Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez.
