IC 6256, 6260, & 6264 lead U71781 24 south along Center Line Rd, just south of Burnett, MN. I'm fairly certain this was a Fairlane train (I really should start taking notes while in the field), but I don't know why the train was half empty. If anyone knows anything, I'd be more than happy to get some clarity. Taken on the CN Missabe Subdivision on 3/24/22.
Continuing my series on beachside plant life, this third image features a spent Milkweed seedpod.
Known as one of the main host plants for Monarch
butterflies, Milkweed plants grow wild just about everywhere, and many gardeners are planting them in their home landscapes to help the butterflies get through their population-decline crisis.
The seedpods fruit in late summer, distributing all their feathery seeds into the air throughout the fall months. Then through the winter, there is nothing left but the dried seed husk and seed core that I've photographed here.
The stem is dead as well, and it will soon fall to the ground (or in this case, the beach sand) and will cycle back into nutrients for the next generation of Milkweed plants!
Enjoy, and have a great weekend, everyone.
New Years Eve 1997 at the South end of Shire Oaks, PA finds CR 2031 on the back end of a WISO-84 that has come in from the Ellsworth Secondary, CR 6582 that appears to have brought in an empty hopper train solo, and a C40-8W and SD40-2 that have also brought in empty hoppers. Shire Oaks was a busy place back then.
In the otherwise overcrowded center of Prague, I waited 5 minutes before people appeared in the frame.

Western Pacific's famous quartet of F7s pull the San Jose Turn on the flyover track above the Southern Pacific at East Livermore, California.
After having been absent for nearly a week I found only empty shells (of the eggs shown in previous uploads).
Don Oppedijk suggested I take them with me to witness the birth of these critters, but I saw that suggestion too late.
So all I can show now are empty shells, I could find no youngsters.....

A BNSF empty coal train with 22 loaded cars of limestone on the head end rolls west at Carlton, MN, on the Brainerd Sub. The stone is likely headed for a sugar beet processing plant in Wahpeton, ND, while the coal cars are going to the Powder River Basin. A sign marking the location of Northern Pacific's first spike makes for a nice foreground element.
