Black and White Wednesdays: Empty
If this looks familiar, it is the B&W version of my MacroMonday, but I thought it worked well for this too. HBWW!
Empty corrals today, but they certainly weren't empty very long ago. Bustling cowboys were certainly in the area branding and immunizing calves not too long ago.
Much more of this part of town was either industrial buildings or empty lot when we moved to Chicago a decade ago. The frantic run-up to the housing collapse saw several condos and a weird strip-mall shopping center replace a lot of that, but the developers ran out of time/money and left a couple of empty segments. I suspect now that the economy has theoretically righted itself, at some point in the near future this patch of dirt between Desplaines and Halsted will become condo. The building under construction you see in the distance is the old Fulton Street cold storage building, which had for a century refrigerated meat processed by the markets on Fulton. The freezer building shut down and thawed last year, and is being converted into a commercial office building.
I'm not sure if there's a more specific name for this other than an "empty lot", but we came across this unused area between a couple buildings (on 4th Street, maybe?).

Well, it makes you feel like you wanna cry
Like you wanna cry

Empty racks in a Mannheim supermarket. The reason for this emptiness is a close-down the following day - Leere Regale in einem Mannheimer Supermarkt, der am nächsten Tag geschlossen wurde
We had leftovers of our Beans & Rice, so I had a bowl of that for dinner. (want to get the fridge emptied to put our so we can make room for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day leftovers!

I was quite surprised to have an empty streetcar pull up today towards the end of rush hour. It was also an articulated one, which they never use on our line. I went directly to the back to take some shots. I added a cross process effect in Photoshop.
This was a dry cleaning establishment on Ditmars Boulevard for many years before it closed. I love the eerie, lonely look. Today it is a chi-chi cutesy yuppie-type antique shop. Now the area has one less dry cleaner and one more useless filler store.
Finally the haze has gone and we are able to shoot in clear sky. A Sunrise shot at Penang, Weld Quay.
Note: Just reuploaded this pics, brighten up the house on the right side.
Empty "geotextile megacontainer" (essentially, a 25-metre long sandbag!). Once filled, these giant sand bags will be used in TCAP's Funafuti reclamation.

Originally I planned to do a wallet for my boyfriend, but the fabrics were too thick and heavy, so I ended up turning it into a bedside table "empty your pockets". When he comes home, he can leave here the contents of his pockets organized.

Former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, HAWTHORNE STORE located at 3930 Rosecranse Ave. in Hawthorne, Southern California. In 1988, after VONS SUPERMARKETS took over SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS Southern California Division, this supermarket became a VONS. It remained a VONS for several years until VONS took over an empty Food King building, a short distance away in Redondo Beach California. This store stood vacant for many years until the indepentent chain: JONS Supermarkets took over the building, renovated it and operated it as JONS Marketplace Supermarket for a couple of years. In 2007, another independent supermarket chain, Gonzalez Northgate took over building and is now operating it as a Gonzalez Northgate Supermarket. Also located in this shopping center is a former Sav-on Drug Store that in 2006 became a CVS Pharmacy after CVS took over the Sav-on chain from Albertsons.
