This fire extinguisher is over 30 years old, it is empty and it passed inspection. How does this happen?
Photo 1:
In this photo, I wanted to focus on the filled jar with paint and blur the empty once including the one in the foreground. Placing the one with paint on the power line (point) to make it the main subject. I tried several times to take a good one with only focusing on the main jar, but it did not work because of the lighting and the placement of the items.
Empty Fields is the first exhibition to explore the archive of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) and the Protestant mission work in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey. Working with the archives, the exhibition begins by considering the period when the Empire collapsed and the Republic was formed, whereby certain archival absences bear the traces of the Great Catastrophe of 1915.Â
I really wanted to feel something for this place. But I couldn't.
It's been around a long time, and there was a lot of controversy around the owners' plans to tear it down and replace it. Some people tried to claim it had heritage value. And... sure, it did... as much as any old local fixture has heritage value. And some pieces of it are cool...(in fact, I'm hoping to buy a few of the windows and doors for a project I'm doing, if the price is right). But overall, the place just never "worked" for me. Maybe because it smelled bad. Like stale draft beer and damp carpets and grease, and old cigarette smoke. Tearing it down is definitely the right thing to do. It's had its day. Bring on the new.
Why are they empty? Why are they bricked up? This benefits no one. Why not at least let people squat if you not going to use them or plan on demolition at some point.
Kalimnios and his son empty the copper pot (kazani) that was used to boil the grape must-residue (strofilia) for the distillation process of "raki", also known througout Greece as "tsipouro" or "tsikoudia". Raki is a strong, distilled spirit which has 30 to 70 percent alcohol content.
"Emptiness"
Week 16
This week's prompt was "Lamp." I decided to use street lights instead because they are a little bit more photogenic than a boring house lamp. I thought this would've been an easy prompt, but it ended up being more difficult than than anticipated.
I came across this empty alley when I went for a walk along Capitol street in Charleston the other night. I had actually visited this spot during the day and decided that it would look better a night.

Cross-processed film shot with a Russian Smena 8M Lomo camera. I opened the back to let light leak in before rewinding the film. Some scratches on the negatives caused by the camera.
On an alley off the Thames, somewhere around Queenhithe / Vintner's Court, but I can't recall exactly.
I am sure many dreams and hopes were born in the past at the 20th Century Breakdown house...Hopefully they did not turn out as empty as this beautiful, classy but badly decaying house is today...

Went to see Persepolis on Sunday morning. I was early, and I was the only person in the theater until 2 minutes before it began. Then an entire 9 more people showed up. This is a giant pity.

This lady was there when I came to work and there still when I left. The empty shoes were sitting there still.
I don't think I could ever get tired of photographing empty waves! A photograph from a recent swell in Cornwall taken at my favorite beach break.
