A bit of a long drive to this spot, and probably the worst road on skye, but a fantastic place for sunset!
Sunset at Elgol after one of the many squalls had just passed through, we were treated to some fabulous light at sunset
A wild and windy day at Elgol where the best plan was to shelter behind the car as the squalls and showers flew past. Fortunately this also gave a great viewpoint so it wasn't as dull as it sounds. Parking Lot is by Damien Jurado.

Here I am at my spiritual home of Elgol on the Isle Of Skye. The view across Loch Scavaig to the Cuillin is so wonderful in any weather. Whenever I visit Skye this is just about the first place I visit and it is the last place I visit before I leave.

The beach front of Elgol on the Isle of Skye is a stunning location for photography. The vista across Loch Scavaig to the Cuillins is a view that has to be seen to be appreciated. I could not do it justice with a format as small as a camera. Even with a superwide lens it was not possible to take everything in. A highly recommended location if you can make it.
I had an easy day yesterday after all the driving, so just popped down to Elgol for a few long exposures. I also took some shots for possible Timelapse's. This morning I plan to go to Sligachan and wander up to the ridge, we'll see. Typical I popped the ice axe in on the off chance of snow, but didn't imagine I may need crampons. Haunted Eyes is by Joseph Arthur, and the wind yesterday certainly made my eyes tired, if not haunted.

There are hundreds of billions of shots of this place on social media these days, but it's not hard to see why. What a place! The rocks on the shore and Cuillin mountains beyond look otherworldly. Truly wonderful.
I hope I've managed to capture some of the mood that I encountered whilst spending a short time there during sunset.
Thanks for looking.
Taken in autumn 2023 at the end of a wonderful day in Elgol, Isle of Skye. I was amazed by the unusual rock formations showing their structures in warm light.
I'm unpacking and sorting my gear out as I've just returned from a week up on Skye. A place renowned for stunning landscapes and seascapes, and a place I have wanted to visit for many years.
First destination for sunset was the small village of Elgol on the southern Strathaird peninsula, a short walk over the rocky beach to this spectacular view over to the Cullins hills.
Waiting to get some light as the tide was coming in it eventually broke the clouds, but it was very minimal - a great mood and lovely to be on the coast as I never do any coastal work.

A few rocks at the coastline of Loch Scavaig nearby Elgol with the mountains of the Black Cuillins (fresh snow!) at the background. Isle of Skye, 2018.
In the week of March 4-9, 2018, I participated in a Photo Workshop/Tour on the Isle of Skye. It was quite an experience! Three out of four and a half days it rained, so it was a struggle to keep everything dry. We crossed the isle several times. Just under bad weather conditions the isle is marvelous.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for your support, views, faves and comments!
Skye is the sort of place where you can go 30 miles down a slow road only to find that the beautiful sight that greeted the previous visitor has gone away. But there are corners of Skye, and the wider Highlands and Islands of Scotland that suddenly open up before you, and you can only marvel at its beauty. I was quite, but not totally lucky. The tops of the Cuillin mountains were covered in cloud and the view wasn't quite as magical as I know it can be.
The evening light tries to break through the stormy skies at the ever impressive Elgol, Isle of Skye...
The sleepy village of Elgol on Skye has the best backdrop , so good we stayed the whole day admiring the view and waited for a sunset .
For those who might be interested, here is the Leica SL version of my Elgol photo. When comparing, bear in mind that the Leica has a 24 megapixel sensor which is now 6 years old while the Panasonic is a fairly recent camera with a 47 megapixel sensor.
One of the best sunsets I've experienced during my short trip to Skye. Dramatic skies, epic mountains and infinite foreground possibilities.
