The Tide was actually on the way out and I kept shooting as the beach uncovered and exposed these lovely rocks...

Not been out since July with the camera so here is another shot I got in July on our Holidays of Elgol

Here is another shot from Elgol a couple of weeks back now, just as the sun hit the Cullins and Sgur Na Stri

I was thankful for the brew back at the van. Can get a little wild round here.

And a return to my archives yet again! Can’t seem to get any momentum with posting these last couple of months. I picked a good half dozen images to process from the past two years and all were similar to images I’ve already uploaded. I’ve had three from Elgol stuck in my Work In Progress folder since the trip and can’t bring myself round to doing anything with them, so I’ve given myself a good talking to and persevered with this one.

Still didn’t like it until I put it through Viveza 2… rather like the outcome now, hope you do to.

One of my favourite places on the Isle Of Skye. This is at Elgol looking across Loch Scavaig towards the amazing Cuillin mountain range. This exposure has that dreamy quality I often feel when I am Elgol.

Looking across Loch Scavaig to the stunningly beautiful Black Cuillin.

Didn't have the best of conditions with a lot of low cloud during my visit but it did lift a few times.

Those rocks/pebbles are potential ankle breakers, not helped by having to have the dog on the lead because of the cattle that were dotted around the beach.

When we got back to the van most people had left leaving just a few togs and people drying off after kayaking. Had an interesting moment when a bull decided to use the front of the van to scratch it's behind. Gracie was quite intrigued whilst I was more concerned with the rocking and rolling of the van. After a good couple of minutes scratching away he moved off to his harem a little further up.

I really enjoyed the series of images I made whilst I was in Elgol. Spending time in a location watching how the sea interacted with the shore gave me a sense of connection that I often loose when I’m shooting a pre planned vista. Having no reference point for a images gives a real sense of freedom and it’s the direction I hope to take my photography in moving forward. Making images/art for myself based on the things I love most about the natural world is definitely what evokes the most emotion and connection to the things around me. I took up photography for an outlet from my day to day working life that pays the bills but provided little in the sense of fulfilment and enjoyment. Unfortunately I initially fell into the trap of trying to compete with other peoples images (as this is how I’ve always behaved in my working and to some degree my personal life) when now I realise it should be as much about the process as it is that which provides me with the freedom I seek.I hope you like and please feel free to let me know what you think.

One of my favourite images from this year, reworked.

The snow-capped Cuillin, taken from Elgol, Isle of Skye.

A couple of years ago I removed this image because I wasn't enchanted about the editing. It was to harsh. Sometimes it helps to redo some old work. I think my way of editing changed. Wonder if you recognize that ?

I loved to work on this image again, because it reminds me of the wonderful moments we had in Scotland. Last year we had to cancel our trip to the other side of the Northsea. Fingers crossed that it will be possible next October.

After 6 years I'm heading back to the UK, where exactly is still unclear, probably chasing the good weather. But Scotland is of course on top of the bucket list. Therefore I had to re-edit some of the old pictures

A moody landscape on a gloomy day at a stunning location a long way down a steep and twisty single-track road, which was great fun in a motorhome I can tell you!

Elgol is a small village on the shores of Loch Scavaig on The Isle of Skye, Scotland. This was my attempt at a long exposure shot with my tripod, shutter release and mirror lock-up. Captured a 2 second exposure at f/20 ISO100 with my Tiffen Variable ND filter almost maxed out. Enjoy!

Another shot of Elgol's Jurassic coastline

...another from a wonderful, calm evening

Second visit of the day here. The first visit I couldn't see a thing because of low cloud and that was set to be the story for a while apart from a forecast break mid afternoon which thankfully came.

I was right that it's a long way up here, but I was wrong that it wouldn't be too busy. Took nearly two hours to get from Portree to the Fairy Pools earlier in the day and once there a man was walking up and down the queue of vehicles waiting for the car park telling them how long to expect before getting a space. Another 1hr at least I was told. I could see the path snaking up to the pools and there was literally hundreds of people on it. I decided against it and tried the Quiraing. Similar but not quite as bad.

So what began as an idea of a little bit of an adventure with the dog soon turned into frustration and it was clear I was going to be spending a lot of time in queues and in the van, which hardly seemed fair on the dog.

Weather forecast was grim for the next three or four days too and whilst such stunning scenery can lend itself to moody images you still have to be able to have something of a view which clearly wasn't going to happen for at least the next 3 days. For the same reason, too much driving and grim weather meaning little to no views I decided against the NC500 too.

Made my way back to the Lakes today stopping off in Glencoe and Tyndrum where I got fleeced for fuel. 168 a litre of diesel!

The whole drive was fantastic and what scenery I got to see was simply stunning but ultimately it was going to be too much for the dog.

Definitely will come back in Autumn/Winter when things should've calmed down a little.

A shot from a recent trip to the isle of Skye. We headed to Elgol for sunset shortly after arriving on Skye. Elgol took no time in showing its moody side after arriving to cloudless skies and bright sunshine, this was soon replaced by a wonderful moody atmosphere.

I took about 500 pictures in the space of the 3 hours we spent there. This so far is one of my highlights. I used my polarising filter to cut some of the glare from the water along with a 4 stop ND filter to slow my shutter speed down to give some nice movement within the water.

I am really enjoying sea scapes at the moment and im sure there will be a few more to come from this trip.

I hope you like and please feel free to let me know what you think.
