From the car park after a free exfoliation session courtesy of a force 8 westerly.
Much quieter than I expected. Stopped overnight at Torrin and only met a Norwegian couple returning to their tent after a summit of Blaven. Skye can still be quiet(ish) if you are lucky enough to visit out of season.
The very last shot, of a terrific day of photography, on the Isle of Skye.
Almost dark, pouring down with rain, and bitterly cold winds. Wouldn't have it any other way.
More from my recent Scottish photography trip. The snow tipped Cullin mountain range are viable across the bay on the west coast of Skye
Just back from a 4 night stay in Elgol, so had plenty opportunities of catching some wild seas, to no avail was a lovely calm week!!
The 'Elgol Marble', taken on our recent Isle of Skye workshop. Breakthrough photography 6 stop and 0.6 grad filters.
It was already late afternoon when I stopped on the hill above Elgol and admire a unique spectacle. Dark thunderclouds lay over the sea. Between a gap in the clouds, the sun's rays fall on the water and create a mystical atmosphere. Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK.
Photographed with AE bracketing and six exposures.
Elgol is a village on the shores of Loch Scavaig towards the end of the Strathaird peninsula in the Isle of Skye. Spectacular views of the Cullin Mountains meeting the sea can be seen across the bay.
A rather threatening evening at Elgol on the Isle of Skye last November, just before darkness and an approaching sleetstorm.
A revisit to that wonderful isolated location Elgol on the Isle of Skye - a rework on the iMac to be precise, with new tools in the armoury of tidying up artefacts with LightRoom CC and Photoshop.
Image info :- Long exposure with Lee Big Stopper, Nikon D750, f/8.0 , ISO 80, 24mm focal length on Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8.
Shooting across the bay from a very gloomy Elgol.
Thanks for looking, always very much appreciated.

I've been to Elgol a number of times before, but I have finally got a couple of images I am reasonably happy with - this being one of them. Monty and I had enjoyed a long and full day that including a big tick on the bucket list, and a trip to Elgol later in the day was a bonus. The crowds had gone, and the tripper boats were moored up for the day so I had a bit of elbow room to try out a few viewpoints. I settled on this one because of the foreground, but also due to the restless sea washing over the rocks. Elgol with a long exposure smoothed out sea just doesn't look right to me, it's a wild place where the clouds and sea are always moving. The backdrop of the jagged peaks of the Black Cuillin also don't look right if they are becalmed. So I went for a higher shutter speed to try to freeze rather than blur the motion, but perhaps I really needed a better camera and an even higher shutter speed to really get the effect. But still, it's better than previous attempts.
More on the bucket list tick in a few uploads time.
A series of 4 images from the depths of the hdd taken over a period of a few years. I have not taken many new images of late due to various reasons hence the hdd raid. I've posted 4 images as I'm going to be away from flickr for awhile.
I hope you enjoy them.
Don't you ever miss on the tiny fishermens village of Elgol in the southwestern part of the Skye. It is a formidable place to spend an evening or two... what a show when the sun is setting behind the Black Cuillin Mountains. Be prepared for some jawdropping moments and sights. I fell in love with that place...
Sunset at Elgol Beach, our first visit back to Scotland since January 2020, I'd been wanting to take this shot for a while now and last week gave me the opportunity, this image was actually shot from the car park, my right ankle had been playing up for a day or so and I didn't fancy risking the walk over the rocky beach, as it turned out I actually broke my right ankle later in the week whilst visiting Neist Point, to help bring out the definition in the sky I used a V5 pro holder, Landscape CPL and a 0.6 stop grad.

Still one place for my 11th feb skye workshop

A one from a few years back , taken at elgol on the Isle of Skye, this location is absolutely stunning, but very tricky for composition, a beautiful sunset filled by a visit to hospital as my partner carol was unlucky enough to slip on some rocks and gash her knee 😬
I'm off volunteering today so just a quick one from my recent trip to the Isle of Skye. Elgol seldom disappoints. There she goes my beautiful world is by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
