We were not expecting a great sunset because of the clouds...

Short after the sun was down, a stunning pink light showed up !

I had to make this composition quick with an anonymous photographer on it !

Hope you like it :)

Thanks !

Stumbled across the boulder by chance on my last visit here before leaving for home the next morning, pure luck I had the right tide height too

I can't help but revisit my photos from a trip with my brother in November 2018. Elgol made a big impression on me (well... all of Skye did!).

I have just upgraded from a 5D iii to a Mk iv. This is one of the first shots out of the card. A between showers shot. Skye has not experienced the heatwave other parts of the country have. I know I could have shopped it out but there is currently a large orange buoy, close to shore that shows up prominently in compositions from a higher position. So I got down low for this comp.

Isle of Skye .

We just had a fab long weekend in Skye. Drove up on Friday night to be greeted by stags and deers standing at the roadside in the snow. The weather cleared overnight and we had lovely cloudy and sunny days with no highland midges tormenting us.

A dramatic stormy afternoon at this classic Hebridean location.

An old picture that a deleted by accident.

So now it's back in my stream

Another shot from the beautiful coastline of Elgol. Isle of Skye

Due to very poor weather conditions I decided to do a re-edit on an old image, on this occasion I stitched two images together. I hope you like it.

A much shorter exposure than the previous shot of Elgol on the Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye.

A classic Isle of Skye view from Elgol. The weather was particularily bad this day but the lighting and clouds, in my opinion, helped create this dramatic and ominous looking scene as captured here in black and white.

There's a good reason this remote spot is popular with photographers - even when the weather and lighting isn't ideal there's always interesting photographs to be composed if you're willing to do a bit of exploring.

Isle of Skye, Scotland

Sadly it's time to go home. It's been a fantastic week on Skye with the wildest weather imaginable. The last day was as wild as the rest, and there was a magical light as I arrived at Elgol for a farewell couple of shots. I met a. young French girl there who was obviously enchanted by the scene . She said to me " I've never seen light like this before". It summed up Skye for me perfectly, and I was fortunate to share that moment with her. It's the first time I've been on holiday on my own, but it's been great fun. I always have my love Skye to keep me company. But for now I'm heading back. Love will tear me apart is by Joy Division.

After 6 years I'm heading back to the UK, where exactly is still unclear, probably chasing the good weather. But Scotland is of course on top of the bucket list. Therefore I had to re-edit some of the old pictures

I took my clients down to Elgol yesterday as overnight, fresh snow had fallen and I knew that the Black Cuillins would look beautiful as a backdrop to the high tide that would surround the detailed and wonderful rocks on the shoreline.

I wasn't wrong.

The water was calm, the whole place felt serene and peaceful and quite unlike the Elgol I have come to know and love. I revelled in the conditions and I am pleased to say that even the rain stayed away.

By way of peripheral interest, this image has been used as the "stunning new cover" for the reprint of Hamish Haswell-Smith's "An Island Odyssey": see here for details.

Another day at Elgol on the Isle of Skye. Im always looking for a unique composition and alternative lighting so chose this moody scene with rocks in the foreground covered in moss and seaweed. I must admit, a very tricky place to photograph as the tide comes in so quickly, I had to wait 4 hours to capture this image.

This huge and remarkable outcrop of weathered, pockmarked sandstone has me lingering and clambering and virtually salivating every time I visit this place on the Isle of Skye.

Yet another wet lens day on Skye. Drove over to Elgol on my first visit to the island, hoping for some great light. Instead I got loads of weather. The howling wind was blowing salt spray far and wide, so it wasn't sensible to have the camera out for too long. A low PoV didn't help, I suppose....

Anyway, Elgol's great in any weather.

Elgol is situated on the southern end of the Isle of Skye. The road that leads there is long but beautiful and you'll certainly need a lot of time to jump out taking photos of the beautiful landscape; this was taken at sunset - the place is mind-blowing. Very popular too - you would need to be lucky to find a parking spot on a nice evening. We were lucky!
