An Olympus OM40 that was rescued from a Charity shop in a small kit consisting of the OM 50mm f/1.8, a Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 Close Focus (built by Komine) and a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/2.8-4 (also by Komine). The 50mm has been cleaned as there was some fungus damage to the inside of the front element. The 70-210 also has very slight signs of fungus and a slow aperture mechanism but the 28mm is in perfect condition.

Here is an electronics store.
Instead of sitting in Seoul and watching Hong Kong movies as it would have been the likely case in the 1980s, now I am in Hong Kong watching Korean pop music video.
The performer on these LG TV screens is Rain, who went on to even shoot a Hollywood movie. And while this particular frame shows closed captions in English as the lyrics for this particular section were English, the rest of the song is in Korean and so were the captions.
The main clue that I am in Hong Kong, rather than Seoul, is that the TVs carry the standard LG brand. For the South Korean domestic market, LG uses XCanvas as its television brand.
The relative decline of Hong Kong's pop culture, which had ruled Asia throughout the 1970s and the 1980s, was in part due to the rise of newly affluent South Korea's pop culture. Though a key reason for the decline of Hong Kong was the fears over the looming Communist takeover of 1997, even though the Communists have left Hong Kong's freedoms pretty much intact for now. And with a new fascist regime in power in 2008, South Korea's own pop culture dominance may itself come to a screeching halt.
This is my old SLR camera: EXA 1c made by Praktica in Dresden, DDR. I bought it in summer of 1987 in Dresden, for about 500 Marks, East German currency, but quite expensive for me then. No electronics at all in it, just mechanics and optics. Lenses signed: Tessar 2.8/50 Carl Zeiss - Jena. At that time I did a lot of slides shots with it, but now I didn't use it in last 4 or 5 years.

Not the enclosed Wal-Mart electronics department of bygone days years and years ago, but nostalgic-looking nonetheless. Very reminiscent of what the store in Olive Branch looked like prior to it's Project Impact remodel circa 2011-2012. The Wal-Mart Supercenter in Corinth Mississippi (now also a full Project Impact-ed "Walmart" unfortunately) had the enclosed electronics area until about a year ago (summer 2013), and had the even older decor package, with signange and such very similar to the Wal-Mart Random Retail recently posted pictures of: www.flickr.com/photos/walmart3/sets/72157645323256675. Why didn't I think to get pictures of the Corinth store back circa early 2012 when I was in it!?? I only have one photo on flickr of it's exterior, from back in October of that year: flic.kr/p/ff37xT.

Today is National Technology Day -- a day we photographers and Flickr users should appreciate.
Fittingly, today also kicks off the International Consumer Electronics Show.
The photo shows part of a board that controls a bioreactor -- also a wonderful piece of technology.
I think next year, in observance of this day, someone show give me a fully functional TARDIS. :-)
Digital storage adapt0r. This Thurlby DSA524 will turn my 1970s Hewlett-Packard oscilloscope into a 1980s digital storage oscilloscope.
The bandwidth is 5MHz, which will allow me to see the rise and fall of waveforms produced by 1970s digital electronics fairly clearly.
It also has tons of buttons and red LEDs and beeps when you switch it on.
Oh and an interface port that allows you to connect it to a BBC Master Microcomputer.

At its heart, this is a simple, elegant camera. The Olympus Chrome Six is very solidly built without frills of any kind. even the leather covering is stoically plain. The machining of the metal part is top-rate and straightforward; the shutter and lens appear and function as new.
Rant begins:
What made film photography so great, what provided so much variety among brands and models, was that the manufacturing of cameras was, for the most part, completely independent from the manufacturing of the media (film). That was Fuji or Kodak's part of the deal. You made the device and the customer filled it with someone else's technology.
Nowadays, it's just as essential that a camera company be as adept at developing advanced computer/electronics substructures as they are at creating cameras. The mechanical needs are very, very secondary. Hence the reason for the loss of so many great mechanical camera manufacturer's brands in the last 20 years. It's sad that in a world of 6-billion humans, we can only choose from a dozen or so camera company's products. IMHO.
Rant over.

The Photokina (rendered in the promoters' branding as photokina) is the world's largest trade fair for the photographic and imaging industries. The first Photokina was held in Cologne, Germany, in 1950, and it is now held biennially in September at the koelnmesse Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre. Many photographic and imaging companies introduce and showcase state of the art imaging products at Photokina. The show has two main competitors, both annual shows held in different parts of the world. The CP+ show in Yokohama, Japan, originally the Japan Camera Show, has been held since the early 1960s. In the U.S., the main photography show is PMA@CES, which since 2012 has coincided with the International CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

Cologne (English pronunciation: /kəˈloʊn/, German: Köln [kœln] ( listen), Colognian: Kölle [ˈkœɫə] ( listen)) is Germany's fourth-largest city (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich), and is the largest city both in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and within the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Area, one of the major European metropolitan areas with more than ten million inhabitants.
Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine River. The city's famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln) is one of Europe's oldest and largest universities.[2]
Cologne was founded and established in the first century AD, as the Roman Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium in Ubii territory.[3] It was the capital of the Roman province of Germania Inferior and the headquarters of the military in the region until occupied by the Franks in 462. During the Middle Ages it flourished as one of the most important major trade routes between east and west in Europe. Cologne was one of the leading members of the Hanseatic League and one of the largest cities north of the Alps in medieval and renaissance times. Up until World War II the city had undergone several other occupations by the French and also the British. Cologne was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II. The bombing reduced the population by 95% and destroyed almost the entire city. With the intention of restoring as many historic buildings as possible, the rebuilding has resulted in a very mixed and unique cityscape.
Cologne is a major cultural centre for the Rhineland; it is home to more than thirty museums and hundreds of galleries. Exhibitions range from local ancient Roman archeological sites to contemporary graphics and sculpture. The Cologne Trade Fair hosts a number of trade shows such as Art Cologne, imm Cologne, Gamescom, and the Photokina.

Liège (French pronunciation: [ljɛʒ]; Dutch: Luik, [lœyk] ( listen); Walloon: Lidje; German: Lüttich; Latin: Leodium; Limburgish: Luuk; Luxembourgish: Léck) is a major city and a municipality in the European country of Belgium. It is located in the province of the same name, Liège, of which it is the capital and is part of the Walloon (French-speaking) region of Belgium.
The city is situated in the valley of the Meuse River, in the east of Belgium, not far from borders with the Netherlands and with Germany. At Liège the Meuse river meets the river Ourthe. The city is part of the sillon industriel, the former industrial backbone of Wallonia. It still is the principal economic and cultural centre of the region.
The Liège municipality (i.e. the city proper) includes the former communes of Angleur, Bressoux, Chênée, Glain, Grivegnée, Jupille-sur-Meuse, Rocourt, and Wandre. In November 2012, Liège had 198,280 inhabitants. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 1,879 km2 (725 sq mi) and had a total population of 749,110 on 1 January 2008.[2][3] This includes a total of 52 municipalities, among others, Herstal and Seraing. Liège ranks as the third most populous urban area in Belgium, after Brussels and Antwerp, and the fourth municipality after Antwerp, Ghent and Charleroi.[3]

The Bore-Proof way to learn electronics--back when kids could complete their science fair projects with only a little help from Mom and Dad. This 65-in-1 Kit looks so cool that I'd like to buy one for my 20-year-old EE major at Texas Tech!
Oh for the days when Radio Shack was a nerd's paradise! And dig Mom's optical illusion style shirt. That's a science project in itself!
Alternative to other CSC offerings, this capable camera made by the most evolving electronics company is a interesting offering now, when the NX300 is here. Large APS-C sensor with usable ISO 3200, easy handling, very solid build, many functions for both amateur and advanced photographers, full controls, WiFi connectivity, 8 fps, and very good lenses. The 18-55 is really nice, and firmware modifications made the auto focus faster and raw files smaller. Now when the production life of the NX210 comes to an end, some local resellers run crazy and the price is falling like a stone - I found this one for $250 with some benefits. For that money it´s a quite powerful and handy camera.
We have a new park/playground in town and this is one of the most popular games. The kids run around hitting the buttons on the posts and rack up scores.
Clever to take electronic games outside where the kids have to run and breathe fresh air!

1970 The NAGRA SN recorder, in spite of its small size, produces exceptionally high quality recordings. It is much appreciated by reporters, who can record broadcast quality tapes and, at the same time, be more mobile.
The letters 'SN' stand for Série Noir (Black Series) as the recorder was originally ordered by President John F. Kennedy for the American secret services. Apparently, the Nagra SN was even taken to the moon on one of the Apollo missions.
