Test of the film Original Wolfen (ORWO) NC 500 with my Canon F-1 and a Canon FD lens 1:2.8 f=100mm during a photo session at the Botanical Garden of Lyon, France, on October 16, 2023.
The Original Wolfen (ORWO) NC500 is a negative-color film distributed by InovisCoat GmbH in Germany initially for cinema film (500 ISO) and adapted for 35mm photography at 400 ISO for the standard C-41 process.
Expositions were determined for the recommended 400 ISO using a Minolta Autometer III with a 10° finder for selective metering privileging the shadow areas or, most of the time, the very efficient build-in metering of the Canon F-1 that operates also selectively manner in a central rectangular small area.

After full exposure, the film was processed by a local lab service using the C-41 process. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body adapted to a Minolta Auto Bellows III and a Minolta Slide Duplicator using a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5 at a reproduction ratio of 1:1. The temperature color of light source of the reproduction system was set at 5600 K so that the RGB chanels were optimally distributed over the tonality range. The reproduced RAW files obtained were processed in LR prior to the final JPEG editions. Color were balanced carefully using the 3 RGB histograms as guidelines to search for a best white balance and tonalities according the computer screen set for the Adobe RGB 1998 color tones.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg together with some smartphone Vivio Y76 documentary pictures.
About the camera and the lens :
I own this Canon F-1 since April 2022. The body is stamped "N1129" (in the film cartridge magazine) indicated that the camera was manufactured in Japan in November 1973. The lens is stamped "M1011" on the rear baffle indicating a construction in the Canon factory in October 1972. The Canon FD lens 1:2.8 f=100mm is a very early production of April 1971.
The camera was used very carefully with almost no sign of age. The photometric circuitry needs, as most of te SLR of that time, a 1.31V mercury oxide battery that I remplaced by a Kanto MR9 adaptor for a SR43 silver oxide battery. The cell operates with a little compensation necessary between EV 8 and 14 , compared to my Minolta Autometer III on a 18% neutral-gray chart.

We used the Subway extensively to get around the city. Trains in all directions run every 1 1/2 minutes. Bikes are taken on board as well.
They cruise around the lake as one big group closing in and rounding up a school of fish they would eventually swoop down on. They migrate to this lake about this time of the year, December and stay for about a month, and they will leave again and won't be another year until you see them back again on this Lake Balboa, about 20 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
This lake has a circumferential pathwalk, about a mile in length, perfect for jogging or exercise walk. Maraming Filipino ritong naglalakad din.

The original idea for this shot was that I would be rummaging through the dryer in my boxer shorts in search of a pair of pants. Except, the only things that I would find were ladies garments. Lucky for you, it didn't quite look how I had imagined. This was a last minute pose before packing my equipment up.
Using a tripod I shot the washer and dryer without me in front of them. I then took a shot of me in front of them with the basket. I then layered and masked them together. I chose this route in order to achieve a different lighting effect, reducing certain shadows.
Complex networks are at the core of an intense research activity. However, in most cases, intricate and costly measurement procedures are needed to explore their structure. In some cases, these measurements rely on link queries: given two nodes, it is possible to test the existence of a link between them. These tests may be costly, and thus minimizing their number while maximizing the number of discovered links is a key issue.
Based on the remark that complex networks share common statistical properties (relatively high local density, heterogeneous degree distribution), we propose a procedure in two steps. We first perform a short random phase in which the existence of a link between random pairs of nodes is tested. This gives a partial knowledge of the network topology which, related to the expected statistical properties, helps in a second step to predict what are the links that are the most likely to exist.
The plot above exemplifies this method. It shows the evolution of the number of discovered links (vertical axis) according to the number of tested links (horizontal axis) for different strategies used to order the link queries. They all have been tested on the same original network (the largest Flickr group observed during a study conducted in 2006).
The plot shows that different strategies have very different behaviours and that trying to optimize them is therefore relevant. It allows in particular to consider the degree distribution and the local density as valid principles on which ground the links prediction.
Yet, this plot doesn't give any insight on the impact those measurements have on the obtained view. The induced bias can indeed be very important and it is therefore crucial to take this aspect into account in the procedure. This is what we intend to explore in further studies.
