Bishop David Walkowiak celebrated Mass for the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew on April 20. The Easter Vigil includes the blessing of the Easter fire, a ceremony in which the Easter candle is lit from a fire on the Piazza Secchia outside the cathedral. Parish communities throughout the diocese, including the cathedral, welcome new members of the Church during this Mass. Individuals who have completed their preparation are baptized and/or received into full communion with the Church.

The Easter Morning Ride was foggy and rainy this year – still nearly 100 bikers made it out. Visibility was down to 15 feet in the fog; and somehow it was also raining. Poll is taking the opportunity to recharge with a little breakfast.

The Easter Morning Ride is a San Francisco Bay Area tradition dating back to at least the ‘70s. Legend has it that Mean Marshall and several of his buddies had been partying all night. Instead of giving in to sleep like us mere mortals, they thought it’d be a great idea to ride up to the peak of Mt Tam and watch the sun rise. And the ride was born. Originally it was primarily British iron, but it has evolved it to anything (and everything). Many exotic bikes make this ride. A great time to chat with old friends, meet some new ones, check out a huge variety of motorcycles, and catch the sunrise. 5:30am. Tam Junction. Be there. Oh, and a Special THANKS to the Park Rangers for getting up before dawn to open the gates for us – you’re awesome!

Several of the residents joined in today's craft of making chocolate Easter nests!! Donning rubber gloves, they coated a handful of dry chow mien noodles with melted chocolate to from nests. They then topped the nest with jelly bean eggs and a little marshmallow peep! A few of the residents couldn't wait and started enjoying their home made treats as soon as they were finished.
Easter is the apex of the Church's liturgical year and is the solemnity upon which the rest of the year revolves. It was on the first Easter Sunday that the Lord's disciples discovered the empty tomb, indicating that Christ had risen from the dead.
By His Resurrection Jesus Christ triumphed over death, paid the debt that came through the sin of Adam, and thus opened the gates of Heaven to mankind. Thus, the Lord's Resurrection on Easter thus marks the turning point in salvation history.
It is for this reason that Christians have great reason to rejoice in the new life brought to us by the Risen Savior. Salvation has come at last! For this reason, the Church resumes the use of the word "alleluia" which is said with even greater frequency and fervor for the rest of the fifty days of the Easter season, also known as 'Paschaltide.'
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is no mere historical event relegated to history but a living reality which Christians experience again and again each year. It is an ever ancient and ever new mystery that is re-presented each year. May all discover and receive the new life to be found in the Risen Savior.
