Detail of the Easter sun. Here you can see the stained glass influence more clearly. I used strips of black crushed velvet to imitate the stained glass leading. The inspiration came in part from a show of Tiffany pieces at the Seattle Art Museum.
Every Easter for the past few years (2002 was the first year), we've put up three large wooden crosses on top of Hartridge, overlooking the village. This year, we had a howling gale to 'help' us. We put up the two smaller ones early on the morning of Good Friday, taking them up on a tractor and trailer, then carry the last one up the track from the road (about 300 yards up a steepish hill) and set it up in the early afternoon. The largest one is around fourteen feet (4.3 m for anyone who thinks in metric) long, of which about eleven feet (3.5 m) is above ground when erected.
UPDATE: and again in 2011. Fine weather this year, with just a few spots of rain at 12:30 when we set up the last cross.
