These coconut cupcakes are Ina Garten's recipe. They are beyond delicious. I made these in the first baking contest I entered and won first place.

Found a couple of newly born Lapwings on a field. The mother was not glad seeing me in front of them and became a bit nervous so I've kept some distance and tried not to disturb them.

Lying on the ground with the camera in front of me suddenly one of them popped up of just a couple of meters next to me. Quickly turned the camera around and took 3 shots through the grass before he jumped back...

An Easter photo of two well-dressed miniature adults. The handwritten caption on the other side of the photo says, "Easter 1959."

Happy Easter to all my friends and contacts here. I'm not active as I used to and the quarantine doesn't help because there isn't much to shoot in the house. I was coming from the basement when I saw the sunset hitting the porch; so I shot it and doubled it with some trees outside.

Natural eggs and dyed feathers.

Taken during the Easter Vigil mass. I love the symbolism of being in total darkness to reflect on Jesus's death, followed by his rebirth. Even if you are not religious, the ceremony is very beautiful and moving. If you look closely, you can see that some of they younger parishioner mesmerized by the fire of the candles.

As usual, better for the eyes and soul in the light box.

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Washington, D.C.

This photo was taken two Sundays after Easter of 2019 with the flowers of the holy day still on display.

I am sure that the faithful would ordinarily fill the church for Easter services, but, sadly, this year the basilica will necessarily be empty.

If you viewed my last posting taken from the back of the basilica, this is the view at the end of that long aisle.

The Basilica is indeed uplifting for both the spirit and the eye. It is located a short distance from the U.S. Capitol building on the grounds of the Catholic University of America.

The Basilica is the largest Catholic church in North America. Construction was started during 1920 and was not completed until 2017 (with the completion of the mosaic for the Trinity Dome). The structure design is classified as Romanesque-Byzantine and is constructed entirely of stone, brick, tiles and mortar with no steel framing. The colorful domes and archways are all mosaics with the Trinity dome alone having more than 14 million pieces of Venetian glass covering more than 18,300 square feet. The basilica contains more than 80 chapels and has the largest collection of contemporary ecclesiastic art in the world.

The facility is open to those of all faiths with free parking across the street. It has been visited by Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI and Saint Pope John Paul II.

I posted an earlier photo of the basilica that was captured in the landscape format to attempt to show some of the stained glass windows. This was taken in the portrait format to, hopefully, better show the amazing ceiling mosaics. One cannot help but tilt the camera upward.

Tripods are not permitted without prior permission and the structure and art are protected by copywrite.
