This plant is uncommon (listed as endangered in Florida), but it grows naturally in rich woods. Here is its bloom that appears early in the year before its bright green leaves are fully formed. I bought mine from a native nursery and have several of these planted in the back woods and in my garden where it is doing well.
I credit my father with inspiring me to love plants, but the credit goes to Jeffrey Smith for really getting me off my butt and getting my hands in the earth of the garden.
Sunday was a glorious hint of Spring. McLean Creek was busy with people and ducks. I cannot resist photographing the wood ducks!

Today we had a flock of nearly 50 hens and two big toms ambling through the neighborhood. The big males, these days, are intent on putting on elaborate displays for the females. For now, even in their most ornate and colorful expressions, they seem to be getting ignored. The girls just walk on by!!

Early Spring (mid-March), 20015
Northeast Texas, Bowie County
after much rain, some warmer days, and still cool nights & early mornings
I have been enjoying the presence of wood duck pair on pond- apparently they are feasting on frogs. Do they eat frog eggs, too?
Anyway, I have been able to get amazingly close without precipitating a jump to hyper space. Have been looking at wood duck nest box designs & the different types of scrap lumber & other items i have on hand to cobble together a quick box.

We took our pup to the river at Bold Moon for the first time. So glad I had my phone! He had a blast and he did not seem to mind the icy cold water. After his initial trepidation, he jumped right in! We are going to have so much fun here this summer.
We headed out today after the worst of the showers had passed, to try some "Street Photography" using the Negative Space challenge. Olympia was very busy with people and dogs out enjoying the early spring sunshine.
