These mansions, located at no. 45 of Paseo de Montejo, by 45 and 43, are twin constructions with French Renaissance features. They are the work of European architect M. Umbdenstock and their construction was carried out under the supervision of engineer Manuel Cantón Ramos, who was also in charge of the edification of Palacio Cantón, where the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History is located.

Arguably, the chapel is the site of the first use of the thistle to represent Scottish royalty.

Feeding birds generates volunteer sunflowers. You'd think they'd all be similar sunflowers, but it's pretty clear that the birdseed providers just sell us whatever seeds they can get. By summer's end we have tall and short sunflowers, large- and small-faced sunflowers, impressive and nondescript sunflowers.
This one grew in a planter, and the planter's (ray-like) spikes in the background somehow managed to survive until January (of last year). All in all, I rather like the effect.
This could be considered a daily-photo outtake, too, since it came from the 1/6/2012 folder. The photograph doesn't really work as monochrome, but I rather like it with color. So I offer it here for your edification. Whatever.

This confronted me in the newspaper. So instead of pretty spring flowers or coffee shops views, I offer this for reflection and edification and where warranted ACTION.
"Self Edification and the Tree Sparrows"
My continuing effort to actually LEARN how to take proper pictures without using all the technology available to me. I've been trying to get some decent shots of sparrows for some time now, and finally came across a flock (a cloud? a menagerie? a cluster?) of these tree swallows in a frenzy over a small pond.
All shots with my OM non-digital 300/4.5 /E-520 body.

The project to build a mosque in Reunion dates from the early 1890s. It is the work of traders from Gujarat who arrived on the island two or three decades ago from Surat. On April 20, 1892, six of them (acting on behalf of about 120 others) acquired a building at 111, rue du Grand-Chemin, which had since become rue du Maréchal-Leclerc. It will serve as an informal place of worship for ten years. In 1897, Governor Beauchamp authorized the construction of a mosque at this address. Funded by a fund fed by a lump sum levied on the profits of traders involved, its construction according to the plans of an Indian engineer lasts seven years. Inaugurated on November 28, 1905, 21 years before that of Paris, its main facade is 15 meters long and the prayer room can hold 150 people. In 1960, expansion works are undertaken after acquisition of a semi-detached plot. The new building, inaugurated on August 3, 1962, is partially ravaged by a fire probably triggered by a short circuit on the floor of a nearby commercial space on October 12, 1974. The wooden facade burns completely. The Muslim community of Saint-Denis is mobilizing again to finance new work. With a commercial facade of 38 meters long, the new building is delivered in 1979. The photo above represents it not much time after its opening.

The launch of the collection begins with a handcrafted, chic interpretation of natural glass. The Holiday 2011 collection features Tektite, Aquamarine, Pyrite, African Turquoise, Peridot Jasper, Paula Shells and Green Aventurine, a Stone Savant staple. Impeccably designed with 18-carat gold closures, and a signature SSJ clasp, the holiday collection is an infectious edification of design and architecture. As crisp as the Los Angeles ocean tide and sunset air, the collection is clear and concise, dedicated to the discerning fashionista, with a sense of class, style and exclusivity.
