I often hear people say things such as, "God just wants you to be happy" or "Just do what makes you happy."
_
First off related to the idea that "God just wants you to be happy"...quite frankly God is more concerned about your salvation and your holiness thanks to Christ, rather than your happiness. Yes, He does want you to experience joy which is a spiritual gift and lasting and don't get me wrong as happiness isn't bad either, but, happiness is temporary and subjective. In other words, happiness is a moving target and as what makes one person happy may not make the another person happy.

For instance, you may feel happy when you eat your favorite foods or experience an activity. (ok, I'm a guy so I tend to relate to food but you get the point lol) Our happiness isn't guaranteed.
_
Secondly, related to the "do what makes you happy" idea is something that can be a slippery slope because you can take that statement or idea too far. People do things all the time that make them "happy" but can and do lead to destruction as it falls well outside of God's Word and will!
_
Furthermore, as I read through the pages of the scripture, it's not like He wants you to be unhappy or miserable but His goal for you again, isn't your happiness.
_
If you are in Christ, what makes you happy should be found within the boundaries of God's Word and will...not just what feels right to you. Doing His will and doing things His way should result in joy as He is our joy and strength and it should also result in happiness too but in this case a more lasting happiness.
_
At the end of the day, happiness is temporal but joy in and from The Lord is eternal so don't get confused by what the culture promotes but instead dive into God's Word to do some true fact checking on happiness for yourself from the truth of God's Word. True joy is found in a personal relationship with Jesus!

I pray that we will focus on filling our lives with the joy that is found in Him alone and as a result we will will experience true happiness in the process.

Up close and personal with Horton Tower aka Sturt's Folly. There is speculation that the tower was originally built by Humphrey Sturt as an observatory and then defaulted to use as effectively a hunting lodge. Neither use would require a tower of this height and girth and one should bear in consideration that Mr Sturt submerged an entire village for his own edification. Which leads to the inevitable conclusion that this tower was constructed to meet the 18th century folly builders main objective - namely showing off to his mates.

Prayer is a precious gift and vital tool God has given us. The fact that we can freely talk to The One Who gave us life is amazing and we should never take Him or the gift of prayer for granted.
_
We need to remember and be encouraged that God is a loving Father Who knows what's best for us and when He instructs us to pray believing in faith and to approach Him with confidence, He really means it.
_
So, can we really pray about everything in faith as the scripture tells us? Of course, but we have to trust God's will and pray according to His will just as Jesus modeled for us in The Lord's Prayer. (See Matthew 6:1-15)
_
Unfortunately, what I've witness over the years is that some have taken this as an invitation to believe and or teach that He's going to give us everything we want just for the asking. Or, equally flawed are those who "demand" that He give them what they want?! Don't believe me? Look at some of the programs on some of the "Christian Networks", the internet. radio, or even people know to see and hear this! Same with social media or other apps...it's there too.
_
REALITY CHECK: God does not obey our supposed command!
_
No matter what, we have to have Faith that He always knows what's best for us and He hears and will answer our prayers according to His Will.
_
We have to rest in His answer and never try to "coerce" God into giving us what "we want"...as He again, knows what is best and when He says NO...I hope someday we'll look back and say, Thank you God for not answering that specific prayer the way I wanted You too!
_
