BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT NEW MEXICO
Lower cliff wall dwellings were constructed by expanding the natural voids in the soft volcanic tuff walls of the canyon. The horizontal holes in the wall were used for anchoring both roof and floor timber support beams. Carved petroglyphs are visible in the top center of the image.
Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico, USA
At Bandelier National Monument, one of the National Park Service’s oldest sites (1916), you will find Ancestral Pueblo dwellings scattered across a landscape of broad mesas and steep-walled canyons that provide habitat for a diversity of plant and animal life.
Although best known for archeological sites, Bandelier also includes 23,000 acres of designated wilderness.

People who sleep walk needed to be wary-i've never heard archeologists suggest the Anastazi succumbed to falling deaths, but I suppose they've looked at the bottom of the cliff to see if there were piles of bones.
You need to have a local guide to access the valley floor and half a day or more to do it.
This Italian Renaissance style mansion on W. William St. in Decatur was built for Mueller Co. executive Frank Cruikshank and his wife Leda, the only daughter of company founder Hieronymus Mueller. Completed in 1917 at a cost of $49,000, the 17-room estate was described by the Decatur Herald newspaper at the time as being "Decatur's Finest 1917 Residence, Rich, Spacious, and Comfortable" and gushed the Cruikshank home "unquestionably attains in every way a place as one of the finest private homes in the state."
Decatur native C.J. Aschaurer designed the showplace for the Cruikshank's. The home was considered to be Decatur's first fireproof residence, built with nine inches of concrete and six inches of tile between each floor and four layers of brick in each wall. Sometime after her husband's death, Leda Cruikshank divided the home into three dwellings - a two-story apartment on the east, where she lived until her death in 1951, and two smaller units on the west, one on the first floor and another on the second.

The Cruikshank Mansion is an architecturally significant property in the Decatur Historic District, a residential historic district in the Millikin Heights neighborhood of the city that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
Seen in the background to the right of the Cruikshank Mansion is the tower of the fabulous James Millikin House which was shown earlier in this series of Decatur.

Located in Mesa Verde National Park Colorado this is the largest of the Anasazi Dwellings .Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde National Park. It has 150 rooms, plus an additional 75 open areas. Twenty-one of the rooms are kivas, and 25 to 30 rooms have residential features. The number of Ancestral Puebloans living in Cliff Palace at any one time was 100 to 120.
It is seen with a tour guide from the park and quite informative at the incredible price of only three dollars!!
In the Winter of 1888, ranchers Richard Wetherill and Charlie Mason searched the canyons for stray cattle, they unexpectedly came upon Cliff Palace. This fox has become very approachable and visits local dwellings for handouts here in south gloucestershire in the uk.
Lonely house on the Drina river, near Bajina Basta, Serbia. The other side of the river with (a little enhanced) autumn colors is Bosnian Srpska territory.The location is a little remote, but this thing is destined to become a photographer's whore in the coming years.
What is a photographer's whore?
It's not the Eiffel tower, or the Golden Gate Bridge, or the Taj Mahal, or the Pyramids, everybody knows and takes photos of those, but a photographer's whore is a more specific beast, not known to the masses of tour bus tourists, but one subject which photographers are drawn to like flies on shit, some such examples are the Kirkjufjell mountain in Iceland, that tree in Wanaka Lake in New Zealand, that house in Val d'Orcia in Italy, the bonsai rock in Lake Tahoe, Neist Point and the Old Man of Storr in Scotland, etc.
This little dwelling is often overlooked making your way to the visitor center at Chaco Culture National Historical Park. It likely dates to the period around 1150-1200.
Chaco Canyon was one of the primes objectives of my New Mexico trip.

My dwelling isn't much nicer, just a crooked house in the woods, but I like it. I've been stuck in it all weekend though, working behind the computer. Tomorrow, Josie has a school conference, and that's the last time I have to drive into town all week. :D 8:36PM

I've read about cave dwelling but seeing it, touching it, climbing into the cave, it was a wonderful experience. Cave close-up!
The Ancestral Pueblo people lived here in Bandelier National Monument from approximately 1150 CE to 1550 CE. They built homes carved from the volcanic tuff. The Monument is 50 square miles (130 km2) of the Pajarito Plateau, on the slopes of the Jemez Volcanic field in the Jemez Mountains.

This building on Goulston Street is the Wentworth Dwellings building where Jack The Ripper left the torn piece of apron belonging to Catherine Eddowes on September 30 1888.
The entrance where it was found is the doorway to the left of the Happy Days sign.

I captured part of this while photographing the building next door last week. I had to return after seeing the pic.
The eye-catching features, IMO, are the ecletic window coverings, the fancy pink tile, the brick at the entrance which was apparently covered over elsewhere, the dormer with porch and the overall two-winged shape. Nice old wrought iron fence too.
It is a 6,600 square foot building and pigeon approved.

Old Orhei is now an Architectural and Cultural heritage site, preserving many traditional buildings such as this beautiful example. With the main dwelling to the left of the courtyard, the kitchen (and winter sleeping quarters) are built into the stone wall and hillside.

This was number 108-118 Wentworth Dwellings on Goulston Street, which is where Jack The Ripper left the torn piece of apron belonging to Catherine Eddowes underneath the anti-Semitic graffito.
Eddowes was found murdered in Mitre Square by PC Edward Watkins around 1:45am on September 30th 1888, & the apron was found by PC Alfred Long in this entrance about an hour later.

The Bükkalja region is awash with volcanic rhyolite tuff, and locals have made use of the porous rock for centuries. Besides wine cellars, people have carved out caves for livestock, food storage and of course as homes. At one point 30% of Noszvaj’s population lived in these types of residences. 40 cave homes were still inhabited as late as 1970.
