Can you imagine the face I made during my hikes in the mountains when I found this place here? The whole mountain slope was completely covered by this green carpet. And indeed, as I was walking over this area it sounded like I was destroying something. With every step I noticed that the surface was not stable as the ground was soft and muddy ;-) And every time when I find such places, I beginn to understand why legends and myths from dwarves arise from ancient times. I hope you like my vision here.

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated :-)

Duncan missed the warm sands of Kader. But as any wealthy noble would agree, one could not sacrifice potentially lucrative trade opportunities for personal comfort.

What would his time with the dwarves of Melikroth lead to? He hoped there would be less hostility with them than they experienced with the elves.

There are about 280 different Dwarves roaming around in Wrocław. Finding those little bronze statues can be a lot of fun and a way to explore the city.

The golden silk orb-weavers (Nephila) are a genus of araneomorph spiders noted for the impressive webs they weave. Nephila consists of numerous species found in warmer regions around the world. They are also commonly called golden orb-weavers, giant wood spiders, or banana spiders.

The web can run from the top of a tree 6m high and up to 2m wide. Unlike other spider webs, the Golden Orb Web Spider's web is not dismantled often and can last several years.

Designed to catch large flying insects, the web is slightly angled. It is not a perfect wheel and is usually off-centre. To make its web, the spider releases a thin thread into the wind. When it catches on something, the spider walks along it trailing a stronger non-sticky thread. It repeats the process in the centre of the line to form a strong Y-frame. Around this, it spins the rest of the web out of sticky capture silk.

The silk is so strong that it can trap small birds, which the spider doesn't eat. These trapped creatures often destroy the web by thrashing around. To avoid such damage, the spider often leaves a line of insect husks on its web (like the safety strip across glass doors!); or builds smaller barrier webs around the main web.

The male is many times smaller than the female, some are 1,000 smaller! There are suggestions that it is not a case of the males being dwarves, but the females being giants! The male is so tiny that he can live on the female's web, stealing her food, often without her even noticing him. She may not even notice that he has crept up and inseminated her! Nevertheless, just to be sure, he usually does the deed when she is feeding. In some, mating can take up to 15 hours! The female lives only slightly longer than the male.

German folklore describes the dwarves as a race living within the mountains and caves of the earth. Untiring miners, they carve out elaborate caverns and underground cities. I found one such site dwelling in the far corners of my mind.

Location: a brain cavern.

Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished in Topaz Studio 2.0 and Lightroom Classic.

where fairies and dwarves live

In the Norse world, the dwarves emerged from the body of the primeval dead Urjotun, Yme. Four of them – Nordri, Sudri, Austri and Vestri – were set to carry the firmament. Others became great blacksmiths such as Brokk, Sindri and Eitri, who forged the gods’ indestructible weapons and jewelry. The dwarves lived in dark halls under the mountains, protected from the sunlight that could turn them to stone.

They were creators, guardians and deceivers – a people who stood between the gods and humans, bound to the deep secrets of the earth. Photo Works with PS an ChatGPT

In Norse mythology, the dwarves are beings of earth and stone, unmatched as smiths and craftsmen.

They dwell in underground halls, far from the sunlight they cannot endure.

The dwarves forged the gods’ greatest treasures – such as Thor’s hammer Mjölnir and Odin’s spear Gungnir.

They are wise yet cunning, and their gifts often come with a hidden price.

As keepers of the earth’s riches, they embody both creation and greed.

Under the boughs of a great ironwood tree lies the southern entrance to the Dwarven stronghold of Khaz-Dukhan. These days, the great doors are usually left ajar to welcome travelers and traders and allow a cool breeze of fresh mountain air into the stronghold's depths.

Built as a late entry to NCLUG's June MOC challenge (theme: castle). I was inspired by some old mudguards, which I used to create the "zigzag" pattern in the pillars. Also wanted to play with some interesting color choices I haven't tried before, like the pearl dark grey in the tree and a combo of olive, lime, and spring-yellowish green for the ground.

Wrocław’s dwarves

Built for round 2 of MELO where the prompt was to make a 16x16 vignette that represents one of the free people of Middle Earth. I got the Dwarves category. So I was thinking, what defines the Dwarves? The result ended up being a cave that features digging, mithril, blacksmith, dwarven weapons and architecture (namely Erebor) and the arkenstone. This build was a bit of a challenge. First, I knew I was gonna be away for most of the tournament so this had to be done in the first 1,5 days which definitely got stressful. Second, I realized I had much less sand green than I thought, and there was no time for BrickLink orders. But with all things considered, I'm happy with the end results!

Ken and I drove up into Tennessee today to do a little shooting, despite the rain. We found this GREAT little place full of treasures outside Pulaski TN, on Five Points Road! Not open, mind you, but . . . well, you know . . . !

The adventurers are attacked on their way down the river.

This is a type of berberis that produces lots of dark pink flowers, and when the petals drop off these tiny crimson stars are left.

The grand entrance to Treacleheim was famous for it's large statues depicting the dwarf brothers Dwim and Dim. As travelers approached the dwarven city, the light would catch off the gem-studded door drawing attention to the large doors. But it was the towering statues that kept visitor's attention as they crossed the bridge.

Wyndor was visiting the dwarves of Treacleheim. The citizen's of his city, Dalig Ulv, were bringing their fall produce to trade for weapons. Raiders were becoming more and more of a problem. And with winter coming soon, it was likely the raids would only increase. Best to be well armed. And what better way to protect yourself than with a dwarven blade?

Snow White has not seen the dwarves all day. She is asking her seven woodland friends to keep a watch for them.

The Vyne is a 16th-century country house outside Sherborne St John, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. It was built for Lord Sandys, King Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain. The house retains its Tudor chapel, with stained glass. The classical portico on the north front was added in 1654 by Inigo Jones's pupil John Webb. In the mid-eighteenth century The Vyne belonged to Horace Walpole's close friend John Chaloner Chute, who designed the Palladian staircase, whose magnificent apparent scale belies its actual small size. The Vyne was bequeathed by its final Chute owner, Sir Charles Chute, to the National Trust in 1958. Each year a number of concerts, plays and family events are run. The grounds contain large woodland and a wetlands nesting site which is populated by swans and Common Redshanks. There are a number of woodland, wetland and parkland walking trails. Dogs are welcome into the grounds (on leads), in Morgaston Woods and the Organic Parklands (under direct control). The Vyne holds an inscribed Roman ring as well as a lead tablet that speaks of a curse on the one who stole it. J.R.R. Tolkien was asked to comment on it as an expert on Anglo-Saxon history, including its connection to a mine fabled to have been dug by dwarves, and a few days after began writing Lord of the Rings.

such a sweet couple of dwarves :-)

A company of dwarves are infiltrating the drow tunnels through the catacombs of a vast dwarven necropolis, deep below ground in southern Mitgardia. That the necropolis is nowadays connected to tunnels of more evil origin is sadly all too apparent, since drow or orcish plunderers have recently sneaked in and broken up all the cover stones of the graves to plunder the riches of the entombed dwarves. To someone like these dwarven warriors who are venerating their ancestors, this is an atrocity that cannot be forgiven and strengthens their resolve to defeat the Drow.

The dwarves put their weapon to use! The Drow make a desperate attempt to hinder the progress of the massive ballistae, but the Dwarf soldiers are fierce and well trained.

The Ballistae prepares to shoot, with a fortress in its sights...

One of my builds for Challenge C. I think I'll only get in a build for C, so I'm entering three builds. :)
