It might sound like it when you say it, but CERA is not a girl it is actually the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority. The problem is that there is so much work to do that road have to closed, roads dug up, buildings knocked down and all the 8 million tonnes of earthquake rubble has to go somewhere. Of course people do not like most of this.

A fresh dump of snow. We got at least 30cm of fresh snow overnight. I actually had cleared the previous snow from the garbage can (on right) and covered my car the night before. Lucky that today is my day off.
If you've been paying attention to the news, you would have heard plenty about my fair city of Buffalo, NY, and some of the surrounding areas, getting hammered with snow most of last week. With the city running out of options of where to put it after removal, they ended up choosing the vacant lots next to the historic Buffalo Central Terminal. I ended up down here a couple of times on Saturday because I just had to check on the progress (and of course act like a little kid and climb to the top). I spent over an hour sitting up here and watching the trucks come in and out. It was a sight I don't think I'll ever get a chance to see again in my lifetime. Saying it was surreal is an understatement. Take a look at the trucks on the bottom right to get a sense of scale.
Lots of dumped caravans popping up around Stockholm in the last few years. This one can be admired at the household waste recycling centre near the retirement home in Tungelsta. Yours for the taking I guess.
This morning's beach walk was particularly nice as the weather finally turned and the sun was shining!
I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.

Powered by a pair of the plentiful and pitiful GEs that infest the Philly Sub, it's just another day in Charm City.
A NJ Transit stone train unloads fresh ballast onto track one of the lower North Jersey Coast Line in Deal, NJ. New Jersey Transit has spent a large portion of 2020 revamping the NJCL right-of-way, which has included tie replacement and laying new ballast. Recently, these stone trains have been sent to the NYS&W for loading at Tilcon Quarry in Pompton Lakes, NJ.
Lower Horseley Fields, Wolverhampton. Fly tippers have been busy as 2A21 1120 Wolverhampton to Tame Bridge Parkway rolls its way out of Wolverhampton in the hands of one of West Midlands new liveried 323's. A gent, who was manning a checkpoint for a 33 mile run, walks towards his car to retrieve some refreshment from the boot.
I was a tad late on the shutter with this one but thought it worth an airing.

Came across this wonderful artwork at the dump. To my mind
immediately came "Liberty leading the people" by Eugene
Delacroix. What happens if this strong pauper lady breaks the
the ropes and leads the people to the barricades -:))
Anyway respect to anonymous artist !

One day this sorry looking plant pot appeared out on my wall. Obviously it was a child's craft project, left forgotten next to an ash tray full of cigarette ends.
I kept looking at it, it always caught the light so well, be it sunlight or the lamp from above on the wall.
Its funny how the 365 really makes you examine the details of your surroundings. Today I made three images. Other days I struggle for one half decent one.

This dump truck was owned by a local man who used it in his construction career. He built a big family consisting of many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The worn tires attest to the amount of work sustained.
Unlike the fairy tale this I-95 Energy/Resource Recovery Facility has, in reality, the ability to turn waste into gold. It processes some 3000 tons of trash a day. Their output is almost beyond belief, i.e. 80 megawatts of renewable energy – enough energy to meet the needs of over 80,000 homes.
But being a Stephen King fan I saw this scene in terms of his fantastical story, "The Langoliers". If you'll forgive a horrible pun, here's a quote that takes a huge bite out of the story line:
"We know what happens to today when it becomes yesterday. It waits for them. It waits for them, the timekeepers of eternity. Always following them behind, cleaning up the mess in the most efficient way possible: by eating it!."
Woke up to this Monday morning. Power went out at 10:30am. Still no power, maybe days. VDOT not prepared, electric companies not prepared. Got enough wood for fire stove one more night. Got enough battery power for one more night with CPAP. Gas grill tank full, so we’ve got food. Great way to begin the New Year.
UPDATE: Tuesday……we now have had power since 11am and the house is warm. Made a big pot of soup and got hot showers. Hopefully, the power will stay on and tomorrow I can try to dig out the driveway.
