Yorkshire Engine Co 0-6-0 DE 2603 of 1955 is seen dumped out of use at Distington Foundry, Workington in June 1980. This foundry produced ingot moulds for use at Workington and other steelworks, but was closed less than a year after this photo was taken.

Steel rails were produced at Workington since 1877, although steelmaking here ceased in 1974 and ingots then brought in from Teeside were remelted and rolled until final closure in 2006.

This was one of the best Industrial Railway visits we made, writing in advance for permission and getting a guided tour of the site. Sadly I only had an Instamatic to capture these scenes on what is now the inevitable industrial / retail park.

Although measurable rainfall continues to conspicuously avoid my rain gauge, the thunderstorms and epic skies all around here during Monsoon 2017 have been awesome. This shot is one of many storm cells dumping heavy rain and causing monsoon mayhem across the Phoenix metro area yesterday - My backyard, Phoenix, Arizona

Up early hoping for some early morning Downland scenic shots. Things didn't pan out as the gorgeous pre-dawn colour and light quickly faded when the sun rose in to thick cloud. Beforehand, I came across this sorry sight up on Mill Hill. What is wrong with people?

Our new load of driveway gravel. The driver left it in several piles for us since his truck was too tall to clear one of the trees on our loop driveway.

I guess someone might need them...socks included...

Some rather large dump trucks. Probably retired from mining duty.

Christmas pocket dump, it rains almost every day here in winter so had a spare hat that day, I really can't explain why I had 4 knives except that the Mauser has a good cork screw for opening wine bottles, I always carry the 2 Kershaws anyway, the small one at the top, is my oldest penknife so I had it for opening blister packs or christmas presents. If you look closely enough you might see a date on it, 1968, almost 50 years old!

The watch is a Damasko DA44, I wear it almost every day anyway. As for the 4 pens? Well if I can carry 4 knives why not 4 pens? After all the pen is mightier than the sword.

Just below the pens is a water fitting , it's an adapter from half to 3/4 inch, made by philmac, the BEST water fittings for us farmers. Just above the tape measure is a small pebble I picked up just because of the hollowed out piece on the surface. The tape measure I nearly always have on me for farm work. The trusty old Nokia is going to be used until it dies. Next is a quality street sweet wrapper, I hate litter. Next is a ball of old fencing wire, it can be used to tie a gate or fix a fence etc.

We met some folks at our campground and we took them around to see the sights at Valdez. Unfortunately the salmon weren't running yet, so the only bears available were at the dump.

They are trying to bury the refuse, but with digging machines like brown bears it's difficult to provide enough cover. But the problem is that this mother has now instructed her cubs that people smells offer food and once a bear associates something with food there is a 100% chance they'll repeat the behavior.
