I have a soft spot for these little gems, I sold my DR-110 & VIC-20 to buy the DR-220A (the toms did it for me - fantastic duration!) My freind had the 220E.

In spite of assumptions about creative limitations (even with only eight bars of source material as in this case), it's entertaining to play around with sound on these things.

all analog and pretty simple to follow. this thing is about as basic as it gets for a programmable drum machine. I also think its almost as old as me.
my first play with the squarewaveparade downgrade pedal, with my xbase 09 running through it. Lovely results. This pedal is a great toy and rather unique. See my blog for the lowdown.

The Machinedrum is a digital drum machine with 2.5MB of sample memory. Ot can do all the conventional drum machine stuff but so much more. The sample memory is instantly accessible and the inputs can be recorded/played back without stopping the unit. The Machinedrum is very open ended and almost modular in its approach. E.g. single cycle waves can be sampled and played back in a chromatic fashion. Fast retriggering can add harmonics to the sounds which in turn can be tamed by its filter. More mangling can be done by introducing sample rate reduction. If there is such a thing as an expressive drum machine, the MD would be it. All sound settings can be locked per sequenced step.
I have wanted an MD since when they first came out but due to their fairly high price I was unable to afford one. Finally in late 2012 one was procured, and it will stay with me for a long time, much like a good guitar.
I use the MD in conjunction with an analog synthesizer/sequencer from the same manufacturer - digital coldness meets analog wooliness. The stand are custom built by companyofquail to fit both machines.
In the sound example, 3 sampled blips from a modular analog oscillator were sequenced, played back and parameter locked.
A super rare drum machine called Lunavox. AFAIK it was made by Leif Aasen in Sandefjord, Norway. It is quite punchy and it has a preset rhythm called TEEN - so it is full of win.

The problem of gender misunderstanding in the frame of techno ad libbing Alex hand beats live. The guy plays the drummachine, but the girl sitting beside him, can't hear him. He tries to explain his world of sounds to her but she is not able to overcome the sound barrier. She can't hear the sounds he hears and as she tries to understand him even harder, it only makes her feel sick. Vibrations coming from the unhearable overtones destroy the girl's body. The film ends with the open final making the audience reflect upon the topic. The titles represent the artistic idea of the film. The original music is created in the interdependence with the editing tempo, movements and gestures of the actors; it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the characters.
Очень странный фильм. Загадка. Проблема тотального непонимания противоположных полов, помещённая в каркас техно экспромта, сыгранного действительно в живую Алексом (игра ритмов пальцами на синтезаторах называется хэнд-битингом Hand Beating [H/B]). Парень играет на драм-машине. Но девушка, сидящая рядом с ним, не слышит его. Он пытается донести до нее мир своих звуков, но она не в состоянии преодолеть звуковой барьер. Она не слышит звуки которые слышит он, усиленная попытка проникновении в мир мужских звуков лишь приводит к ухудшению самочувствия девушки. Не слышимые обертона порождающие вибрации, разрушают клетки тела девушки. Финал остаётся открытым, давая нам материал для размышлений. Титры являются художественным элементом фильма, как и в других картинах. Оригинальная музыка полностью подчинена монтажному темпо ритму, пластике и жестам актёров, иллюстрирует эмоции и мысли героев.
