"Project Dad Bike"

This is a 1976 Viscount Aerospace pro that was rusting in my dad's garage, as a present I've been working on getting it up and running again (ignore the chain! It's right now) It's largely stock except for new lighter QR wheels, recorked bar and a new stem after the original was chopped in half to get it out after it seized up and wouldn't budge.

This model has type 3 Forks of death and they're staying on it! It also needed a new bottom bracket after my LBS bent the axle getting everything apart, it now has a screw-to-itself model, which required filing out the inside of the tube. Aside from surface rust on some chrome it was in rideable condition and looks brilliant in the new antique white powder coat! It's given me the bike maintainence bug and I hope to have more projects to work on.

Sundays scenic view for my Dropbar MTB or better: my Gravelbike for fun, comfort and speed!

I built this bike already in December 2022 and it has proven itself over and over since. And dare I say wide tires and suspension forks are finally the main stream in Gravel they deserve if you want all three: fun, comfort and speed? :)

Some noteworthy component choices explained:

Dropbars: because I like them most, more comfy, more versatile, more aero.

Sram Red AXS (new 2024) brake/shift levers and calibers: I really like the hoods and the brake power is significantly increased. 2 fingers on the hood braking steep offroad descends w/o breaking sweat? Check.

„Sramimano“ drivetrain for best of both worlds:

- Shimano BB for bigger diameter bearings, Shimano Hyperglide+ chain and cassette for optimum shifting performance and chain efficiency as well as better tooth count distribution)

- Sram Eagle AXS (no Transmission) despite the frame having UDH. Because of lighter RD weights across all ranges, proven performance and for the AXS ecosystem of wireless shifting.

(Note: Sram Transmission does alleviate many of the former issues. I.e. the Transmission chain efficiency is now on par with Shimano XTR, the tooth count distribution of Transmission is now nearly the same as Shimano always was and Transmission shifting seems flawless so not much/nothing lost if not using Shimano Hyperglide+ but I would be apprehensive of the chainline - my chainline of my Sramimano drivetrain is perfect)

Frame: Canyon Exceed. I’m in love with the geometry and handling of the bike. And the frame not only looks good to my eyes but most importantly features the capability to mount a big 750 ml bottle also on the seat tube also for my small size S! In other words: this is a sensible frame design and not a wannabe dirt bike.

Wheels: Newmen Advanced SL X.A.25 Carbon wheelset: 1255 g with good looks and super light weight w/o exotic rims, hubs or spokes. Instead a sensible choice of dimensions and design for a great price (sadly discontinued in favor of now only 30 mm internally wide rims).

Tires: Continental RaceKing 29 x 2,2 ProTection tires: for me the best combination of light weight and super low rolling resistance. Serves me well from Badlands over Pyrenees to the Alps.
