Nothing beats the sun...

Finally made it down to the sea and found a spot to eat our Tricky Sandwiches I brought from Upper Hutt.

Not pictured - shortly after this a freak wave came and knocked both bikes over and scattered our gear. Luckily I was holding the sandwiches, so our lunch was ok. And luckily Matt's e-bike seemed to be ok after being drenched in salt water.

We took our gear and had lunch back a bit further, and no other wave ever came close to where the bikes were originally again...

Riding back to Picton via Kenepuru Road. Not bad scenery.

A bit less wind and rain yesterday than any other day I have had off. Also first time on drop bars since breaking my hand. Take a bit of getting used to again after flat bars.

Decent little blast, and good to get out.

Not doing any mountain biking during lockdown, but at least I live near some good hill climbs to keep the legs turning!

Looked like new. Never touched the dirt, I'd guess. Old skool treasure at T. Whites Bikes.

Not counting a long hiatus where my bike collected dust, I've been grinding gravel at Vischer Ferry since 2006. A few years ago they the resurfaced the entire preserve, towpath, built new bike paths, and some businesses even capitalized on it all renting bikes and catering picnic lunches with the rentals. The riding isn't incredible (flat as a board and buggy in summer) but it's a fun place to ride as a conduit to link together various other areas off the road in the capital region

Did not see a vehicle or person on this road. Scenic and undulating but not major climbs. Need to explore this side of Eketāhuna more.

Mangaoranga Road. Komoot marked it as a 'great gravel road', not disappointed.

No processing in here. Only cropping and changing contrast - no more. The colors are different lamps shining on the parts of the bike. What do you think about the ugly gackground - I have to change this next time. Check out the specs.

Heading towards Paraparaumu. Awesome bit of cycling infrastructure. More of this please.

Long exposure experimentation in the garden.

I know it's a busy background but it wasn't warm enough to work with the door open.

I just finished installing dropbars on the n8cycle. The n8cycle is a bitsa built Raleigh Sports 3 speed. Bitsa dis bike, bitsa dat bike built by friend N8 and gifted to me when he moved to New Jersey.

I'm getting it ready for this year's Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour.

Can you do a more typical „bikepacking bike in Kyrgyztan“ photo than one leaning against a Yurt? #BAAY (Bike against a Yurt) instead of #BAAW 😅😀

Super happy to find such nice guest yurts at CP2 at Kel-Suu. Although I didn’t sleep in one. But photographing my bike there, I just had to! :)

What can I say? This bike and setup has now proven itself over and over. I used it to great success in Badlands, El Piri, Alps Divide, the Hellenic Mountain Race and now, accordingly adapted, even in the Silk Road Mountain Race. Again without any mechanical or hick-up. I not even had to pump my tires once.

I will say that I deem a full sus bike an even better choice for the SRMR. I figured that before and confirmed it during the race. But on the other hand: hardtails are such capable and versatile machines for bikepacking - you can not go wrong with a sensible chosen one. Especially if you carefully select the components and being comfortable with bike, components and fit. Don’t go overboard with the amount of stuff to carry, either. Because this really hampers your ability to carry and hoisting this bike through rivers and across improbable hike-a-bike slopes and precipices. Also here my Dropbar Exceed was really nice to handle.

A ride along the river today as you can get to a number of places along here. Always good to get some km in on the gravel bike.

and the handlebar evolution of street Tarcks! Try and tell me the dropbar came before the bullhorn I'll definitely call bullshit.

I am so glad my raw converter (Raw Therapee 4) has a decent highlight recovery function because I can tell you the sky wasn't pretty in the jpeg version of this shot.
