I had driven past this place a few times, and was always intrigued by the car under the little carport. However, I kept forgetting exactly where it was, since it wasn't a route I took very often. Finally, I drove by it again in late January, only to see that the building had been demolished, and that there were several more cars inside the fence.
As luck would have it, my daughter needed to take some photos for a class assignment, so I dragged her along when I went back a few days later.
According to Google, the car that had originally caught my attention is a 1936 Buick, and the "bonus" cars are a 1957 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and two 1959(?) Edsell Rangers, along with some other cars and a few boats.
I had car troubles tonight.
Either the battery is hosed, I have a loose connection or my alternator is dead. The dreaded "click, click, click" came rapidly stuttering when I turned the key after filling up at the gas pump. That sinking feeling of "Oh Crap!" came on swiftly. A couple of calls later and I had jumper cables on and started it back up like nothing was wrong.
My solution: go for a ride on the highway to juice up the battery.
Road Trip!
I brought my camera bag up to the front seat and got the camera out and prepped for action, should any come my way. Then I took off for a jaunt North up I-55 to Elkhart, Illinois. It's about 20 miles up from where I started, and a good enough trip to give the battery, if that's what the problem is, a charging.
On the way there, the setting sun had my eye looking for a great landscape scene. Off in the distance I saw this clump of trees at a slight rise in the flat prairie farm landscape. A nice tableau with the setting sun and the clear blue sunset sky.
Down went my window and I fired off several captures, carefully paying more attention to the road flying by at 70 miles per hour than to my framing. This one came out best.
I especially like the reflection of the sun off both the frontage road and the lanes of the highway leading to the sun, then the trees. The blue to orange sky is icing on the cake.
I got back home, backed into the driveway just in case, and turned off the car.
I tried to start it back up immediately: "Click, Click, Click"
Looks like my Saturday will involve a bit of car repair.

This pedestrian overpass was built by the Bamberger Railroad, an electric interurban railroad that ran between Ogden and Salt Lake City Utah. It crosses a deep cut that divided homes and farms on the east side of the hill from Farmington's Main Street. This is one of the few remaining intact sections of the Bamberger Railroad in existence.
The history of the bridge is pretty much unknown, as Bamberger Railroad's corporate records did not survive. Most of their records probably burned in the car barn fire, and if anything after the fire was kept, I haven't found it in the catalog of any archive yet. It is constructed out of used railroad rails, rolled in 1890, welded to steel I-beams. Originally it simply had board railings, but eventually the chain link mesh cage was added on. Based on a photograph, this is likely the second bridge here, as the photograph shows a wood bridge held up by two sets of wood posts instead of the single concrete posts that exist today.
Surrounding homeowners have encroached on the Bamberger's grade, and strangely, Farmington City maintains this bridge as a trail. The deck has been replaced with Trex planks and trail markers driven on either end where the pathway meets the streets. Unfortunately the east abutment has cracked and shifted, so it's only a matter of time before this bridge is considered unsafe and either demolished or replaced with something modern.
I'd driven past this old shed on Mount Scio Road, St. John's, NL dozens of times and knew there had to be a shot there. However, I'd never been motivated to look for it until today with the trees and grasses all covered in hoar frost and light snow.

Driven by Manfred von Brauchitsch, this car won the Avus Race in 1932.
In testing by the Mercedes-Benz race car development team, It was found to be 20 KPH [12.4 MPH] faster with this more Aerodynamic, "Streamlined" body than it was with its original bodywork.
This car was sent by Mercedes-Benz from the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Museum in Stuttgart, Germany specifically for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event. This Race Car was at the event for Display only, not entered in the Concours Competition judged classes. It was also driven in the "Tour d'Elegance" earlier in the week.
It was Attended and Maintained by one of the Factory Restoration Specialists, who was involved in the restoration of this car, and who was generous with his time to answer questions while on Display during the Event.
The "AVUS" name is from "Automobil-Verkehrs- und ÜbungsStraße, which in English translates as "'Automobile Traffic and Training Road'". This is an open road near Berlin, Germany that was completed by 1921. It was then also used for auto racing events as late as 1998.
The Engine is an Inline Six Cylinder, Overhead Cam, of 7.1 Liters [433 Cubic Inches]. It is Supercharged by a Positive Displacement type Compressor, which is driven directly by the Crankshaft.
There is some degree of cooling for the Compressed "Charge Air" from the Supercharger caused by the Finned Design of the Cast Aluminum Manifold Duct leading towards the Carburetors.
The Radiator Fan is driven by a Gear & Shaft arrangement from the Cam. This avoids the possibility of a belt breaking or slipping, although there was likely a weight penalty.

Probably Dave Evans in the former Harry Hartz owned and Leon Duray (in 1925) driven Miller in Atlantic City for the May 1, 1926, Inaugural Race. The car was just purchased by George Abell from Hartz, and this was its last run in the old 122ci formula.
George installed a new 91ci motor for Indy and a new livery and number change to blue and gold and #33 to be driven that year by Dave Evans, Thane Houser and Ben Jones.
