I have driven past Kingston on the 401 hundreds of times enroute to or from destinations further east. It was always too close to home to warrant a stop on the outbound trip and on the way home it was always "No, let's keep going and get home". I ventured into downtown Kingston once 30+ years ago and one evening before that stopped here at the station and shot the Turbos on a gloomy evening. So recently, not really wanting to venture too far afield but will plenty of accumulated vacation time I found myself in Kingston for a few days. Most of the days were spend cycling but the evenings were free to hand around the station and check out the Via and CN action through town.
This is Ottawa - Toronto train #55 making its station stop and preparing to make a more or less on-time departure at 1941 after the allotted four minute station stop. The close to full moon is just rising in the east, making a quick appearance before being swallowed up by the cloud cover.
You see her and think that she so sweet and all that;) it's a ancient breed, they go into "wolf mode" in a second...searching, stalking, chasing, biting is in her DNA...soon as she sees some week/scared dog...she doesn't hesitate a bit. Lhasa Apso are companion/exhibition dogs but they are very wild too. She'll do a chase like this ones a month while she is with me but when somebody else will take her (like my Mrs;) for a walk...she will chase at will, all the time;)

How can you say that your not responsible?
What does it have to do with me?
What is my reaction?
What should it be?
Confronted by this latest atrocity
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Hide my face in my hands,
shame wells in my throat
My comfortable existence is reduced
To a shallow, meaningless party
Seems that when some innocents die
All we can offer them
is a page in a some magazine
Too many cam'ras and not enough food
Cause this is what we've seen
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Protest is futile
Nothing seems to get through
What's to become of our world?
Who knows what to do?
Driven to tears
Driven to tears

This diesel locomotive sits at the Don River Station ready to take passengers. Alongside it is an older diesel driven railcar.
The medium format 120 film gives plenty of resolution and scope for cropping the square format of the 6x6 negative.
Snipe Loch, Ayrshire. Ive driven past this a lot recently in some pretty foul weather. Went back today with camera and tripod and bagged a shot.....
I was going through the archives for something to post, and came across this shot from a year ago. I had to check as I had got it into my head that it was actually two years ago as it seemed so long ago. Sadly it just goes to show it has been very long year.
Anyway, this is a reminder of an amazing morning watching nature in the raw down on the South Wales coast at Porthcawl. Huge waves driven by Storm Dennis came crashing in and then burst skywards as they hit the sea wall (the mole). To give you a sense of scale, the little lighthouse is about 30 feet high.

Just back from 2 weeks in Corfu. No camera just relaxing but that was difficult sometimes as they were some of the worst roads I have ever driven on.
I love the way his talons are folded in so as not to hurt her.

I've driven past this place between Benton City and Prosser, Washington numerous times and finally decided to stop by. What's crazy is that looking back at both Google and Bing street views, this was a fully functional business as recently as 2015. Shot with infrared-converted Sony a6000 (590nm).

-This is my freestyle photo to kick off the project 104. My themed photo of "New Begginings" Will be up sometime tomorrow once i complete the edit! Im keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out fairly descent.
Well this photo was taken in a Chive field, I got well over 20 mosqito bites while taking pictures here, but it was definitely worth it. Ive never been so excited to get home and take a shower before haha. The wonderful sedona is gorgeous as always and i finally go tot snap a few pics of her, and had a blast! Zak and I Went out and took photos from 1-9 today, and i have so many photos im excited to share with all you! So i think i might be starting ANOTHER blog but this time actually keeping up with it so you can see other outtakes of various different shoots i will be doing this whole year while trying to keep up with the project.
Be sure to check out Project 104 if you're interested, it will be so much fun!

Lockdown has driven me to abstraction!
Lytham St Annes Photographic Society , of which I'm a member, has a monthly challenge (not a competition!) to encourage us members to push ourselves, try new things and - weather & lockdown permitting - get out and about with our cameras. The latest challenge was 'Patterns' & for various reasons I only came up with an image today, a couple of hours before the deadline. I decide to have a go at producing something abstract, testing both my compositional skills and my use of filters. It's not everyone's cup of tea (ha!ha!) but I quite like this image.

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile.
The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. The surrounding area is contained within the Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago.Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Elizabeth, Electress Palatine and Queen of Bohemia (born Elizabeth of Scotland; 19 August 1596 – 13 February 1662) was the eldest daughter of James VI and I, King of England, Scotland, and Ireland, and Anne of Denmark. She was thus sister to King Charles I and cousin to King Frederick III of Denmark. With the demise of the Stuart dynasty in 1714, her direct descendants, the Hanoverian rulers, succeeded to the British throne.
Elizabeth was born at Falkland Palace, Fife.[1] At the time of her birth, her father was still the King of Scots only. She was named in honor of the Queen of England, in an attempt by her father to flatter the old queen, whose kingdom he hoped to inherit. During her early life in Scotland, Elizabeth's governess was the Countess of Kildare.[1] When Elizabeth was six years old, in 1603, Elizabeth I of England died and James succeeded to the thrones of England and Ireland. When she came to England, she was consigned to the care of Lord Harington, with whom she spent the years of her happy childhood at Combe Abbey in Warwickshire.
Part of the intent of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was to kidnap the nine-year-old Elizabeth and put her onto the throne of England (and, presumably, Scotland) as a Catholic monarch, after assassinating her father and the Protestant English aristocracy.
Among Elizabeth's suitors was King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, but she was eventually betrothed to the Elector Palatine in 1612.
On 14 February 1613, she married Frederick V, then Elector of the Palatinate in Germany, and took up her place in the court at Heidelberg. Frederick was the leader of the association of Protestant princes in the Holy Roman Empire known as the Evangelical Union, and Elizabeth was married to him in an effort to increase James's ties to these princes. In 1619, Frederick was offered and accepted the crown of Bohemia. Elizabeth was crowned Queen of Bohemia on 7 November 1619, three days after her husband was crowned King of Bohemia.[2] Frederick's rule was extremely brief, and thus Elizabeth became known as the "Winter Queen." She was also sometimes called "Queen of Hearts" because of her popularity.
Driven into exile, the couple took up residence in The Hague, and Frederick died in 1632. Elizabeth remained in Holland even after her son, Charles I Louis, regained his father's electorship in 1648. Following the Restoration of the English and Scottish monarchies, she travelled to London to visit her nephew, Charles II, and died while there.
Elizabeth's youngest daughter, Sophia of Hanover, had in 1658 married the future Elector of Hanover. The Electress Sophia became the nearest Protestant relative to the English, Scottish and Irish crowns (later British crown). Under the English Act of Settlement, the succession was settled on Sophia and her issue, so that all monarchs of Great Britain from George I are descendants of Elizabeth.
A female Baltimore Oriole visiting our yard, discovered some twine being used to hold some branches of a Smoke Tree in line. In this shot you can see that she has successfully started to unravel the twine....
The cutting-edge technology that keeps the Silverstone motor racing track in tip-top condition could be coming to Croydon. John Bownas spoke to the team hoping to bring it here.
Pot holes – we all hate ‘em, and Croydon certainly has its share.
But now, the borough’s highways team is taking a lead from the people responsible for maintaining Silverstone’s grand prix circuit.
New technology that is good enough for the world’s top racing drivers is being tested in Croydon to see if it is up to the council’s exacting standards.
If trials are successful, the infrared-powered Nu-Phalt repair system could become invaluable to Croydon’s road repair crews who would be the first in London to realise its potential benefits.
Apart from a significant possible cost saving, the biggest advantages that the new technique has over traditional methods are:
•speed: a typical 1 square metre repair can be completed in just 20 minutes; currently, the same job takes considerably longer, and would be only a temporary fix;
•durability: the infra-red triggered thermal bonding means that patch repairs are far more permanent and blend seamlessly into the surrounding road surface;
•environmentally friendly: the process starts by recycling the existing macadam and needs only a small amount of new material to top off the repair.
The council has recently announced a multi-million pound investment project to resurface many of its roads.
However, there will always be a need for fast and efficient repairs in those cases where small patches of tarmac work loose.
This can happen at any time of the year – although it is usually after spells of wet or cold weather that these small holes open up to create a real headache for motorists and cyclists.
In total, the council’s emergency repairs operation currently costs about £560k every year in manpower and materials – and that’s not including the money that is budgeted separately for the major road resurfacing schemes that we will be seeing a lot more of over the next few years.
Steve Iles is the council’s head of highways, and he knows better than anyone else in the borough just how big a task it is to stay on top of the thousands of road repairs that his teams have to carry out every year.
Talking to Your Croydon about this mammoth job and his hopes for the promising high-tech solution, he first ran through some of the big numbers involved.
“We’ve got nearly 3,000 roads in Croydon, and these all get inspected by the council at least twice a year.
“We look out for any problems that might have arisen since the last visit – and particularly any new holes or cracks that could pose a hazard.
“Since January our system’s logged nearly 5,000 new reports from both streetscene inspectors and those members of the public who phone or email to tell us about possible problems.”
In that same time we’ve managed to fill in or repair about 9,800 – but there’s still around 8,600 that we know about waiting to be fixed.
“That takes a lot of doing,” continued Steve, “I’ve got six full-time staff who spend the majority of their day out doing this sort of work.
“And when they can’t do road repairs, because of snow and ice, they drive the gritting lorries to try to keep the roads clear.”
Tony Whyatt is the highways engineer whose research into improved technology solutions has led to the trial of the Nu-Phalt system.
“I’m really optimistic about how this will save us time and money.
“We reuse most of the existing road material on-site and need to add only a small amount of fresh material to each repair.
“There’s no noisy compressors, and the system cuts the number of vehicles and staff involved in each repair.
“We also minimise disruption to traffic – which is good for drivers – and these repairs can be driven over again almost immediately they’re finished.”
Indeed, driving away from our meeting with Tony we drove over a number of holes that had just been filled – and the first thing we noticed was that we didn’t notice them at all.
The repaired road was as smooth as the day it was originally laid.

I'm sure everyone has a shot of lone trees on a hillside. I've driven past this spot hundreds of times and yesterday finally 'saw it'
LEE Circ Pol
6 images stitched in CS6
I've driven past these trees many times and always thought there's a shot to be had, yesterday I had my camera with me so decided to pull over and see what I could come up with. The problem I had was finding a vantage point, there was some stunning light and great cloud formations while I was looking for somewhere but by the time I'd found somewhere the clouds had passed leaving the more gloomy looking greyness. Not entirely happy with this shot due to the fact I couldn't quite get the composition I wanted due to trees in the way which I've had to crop out of the bottom of the shot....I'll certainly go back here at some point though.
Shot with d7100 and Sigma 70-200mm
Cheers
