If you have driven along Shore drive recently, you may have noticed the new mural being painted “Gateway to the Bay” by artists from Ham and Cheese Studios in Baltimore MD. The site is located on the Shore Drive underpass at route 13 in the Virginia Beach. The large-scale murals include the 12 columns and headers on both sides of the Shore Drive underpass. There are also abutment walls on each side of the road. The total approximate surface area for the project is 13,128 square feet. The artists are working with the City of Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Bayfront Advisory Commission

These Cattle were filmed in Chicago's Stockyards in July 1897. Filming was done by Thomas Edison's Movie Company for their series on the Erie Railroad company. The stockyards were built in 1865 and were a massive industrial project. Rail lines from across the Western states transported cattle, hogs and sheep to Chicago, where they were slaughtered, packed, and shipped all over the country. The stockyards could slaughter 280 cows in an hour. They encompassed 500 acres along the Chicago river and an outlet which became known as "Bubbly creek" for the methane bubbles rising from the decomposing flesh thrown into it.
The Stockyards developed industrial assembly line methods well before Henry Ford. Most workers were given one simple task, making it easy to give the jobs to unskilled immigrant laborers, who desperately wanted the jobs despite the horrid working conditions.
By the time this film was made in 1897, the Chicago Stockyards were producing 82% of the nations meat, shipping it throughout the country via newly-invented refrigerated shipping cars.

I had car troubles tonight.
Either the battery is hosed, I have a loose connection or my alternator is dead. The dreaded "click, click, click" came rapidly stuttering when I turned the key after filling up at the gas pump. That sinking feeling of "Oh Crap!" came on swiftly. A couple of calls later and I had jumper cables on and started it back up like nothing was wrong.
My solution: go for a ride on the highway to juice up the battery.
Road Trip!
I brought my camera bag up to the front seat and got the camera out and prepped for action, should any come my way. Then I took off for a jaunt North up I-55 to Elkhart, Illinois. It's about 20 miles up from where I started, and a good enough trip to give the battery, if that's what the problem is, a charging.
On the way there, the setting sun had my eye looking for a great landscape scene. Off in the distance I saw this clump of trees at a slight rise in the flat prairie farm landscape. A nice tableau with the setting sun and the clear blue sunset sky.
Down went my window and I fired off several captures, carefully paying more attention to the road flying by at 70 miles per hour than to my framing. This one came out best.
I especially like the reflection of the sun off both the frontage road and the lanes of the highway leading to the sun, then the trees. The blue to orange sky is icing on the cake.
I got back home, backed into the driveway just in case, and turned off the car.
I tried to start it back up immediately: "Click, Click, Click"
Looks like my Saturday will involve a bit of car repair.
Having driven past this last week and thinking - Yes they are photos, an early morning photo session today happen. They are located towards the Grafton Centre end of Newmarket Road and seem to be commissioned by Blight Society www.blightsociety.co.uk

Barry McLerran, deputy district director, office of Representative Mia Love (Utah's 4th District - R), visited with Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) leadership for a depot overview and tour Wednesday.
McLerran was given the opportunity to tour several depot mission areas and receive the depot’s Overview video and Command Perspective briefing, presented by Col. Jimmy Brown, TEAD depot commander.
Areas visited included the Ammunition Demilitarization Furnace, Ammunition Equipment Test Site, Less than Car Load/Less than Truck Load (LCL/LTL), Blocking and Bracing Wood Shop, Ammunition Rail Outload Operations and concluded with a tour of the Pilot Model Shop.
Throughout the tour, leadership answered questions and emphasized TEAD’s continuing focus on warfighter readiness and providing outstanding customer support to not only the services, but to munitions partners through a dedicated, purpose-driven workforce.
"We want to make sure you are supported in the work you do here, because it's important," said McLerran.
