This organic chocolate stout from the United Kingdom is a fantastic beer. The semi-sweet chocolate aromas and flavors are spot on. There is a bit of espresso and nearly-burned malt at the end. The beer drinks very easy and the 5% ABV means the 550ml bottle won't put you under the table. Highly recommended!

Hopper bay braces have gold.

Last night my friend Rachelle and I went to a menu tasting at Salud in Wicker Park. Neither Rachelle nor I had to work today so we drank to our hearts' content.

I have always loved a good mojito, but for some reason last night it struck me as the most wonderful thing ever in the history of the world.

As a result, this will be my drink for the summer. Tonight, after spending all day at the spa, Erik and I are meeting up with my friend Scott where I will drink many of these.

Soooo. Irish Car Bombs you say? I'm your girl.

In grad school, we almost always went to this one bar (which I was famously once heard to describe as, "Doll's Place. It's not the worst place I've ever been. It's just the worst place I keep coming back to." ) and drink cheap beer, and occasionally do shots. We often bet each other things - can you pick up that girl? Can you get that person to make out with you? Who can drink their Bomb fastest?

I got VERY good at drinking Irish Car Bombs fast because it meant a free round on the person who lost.

Where's the broken heart or scar, you ask?

Well, this was my psych grad school crew, and they were all flourishing in their research, publishing, going to conferences, blah, blah, etc. They had advisors and labs that actually supported and guided them. I did not. but for about 3 of those 4 years I assumed I was the weakest link instead of realizing the fault wasn't mine. Thursday night bar nights were very much a way for me to numb my wounds until I realized that.

And so, while ICBs are celebratory affairs for me now, I always remember them as part of the grad school bar tradition.

Strange drink I had at Singapore airport. Called whatever, "any taste for any thirst"! Tasted like peppermint tea.

Scenes from a quiet summer afternoon. I forgot dear Flickr friends if you see a phone in the middle of the photograph I wasn't using whats'app.

When cell phones didn't exist, this symbol indicated that the place (usually a bar or restaurant) was equipped with a public telephone from which you could call or be called by making an appointment.
