Put in some new flowers along side the house. The little critters love to stop by and drink. I always remind them... Please drink responsibly :-)

My all time fav photo!
We went to a cafe called Bali Budha in, well, Bali. It specialises in health drinks. But what came out looked like it was fished out of the gutter!! It even tasted foul! I mean c'mon it was actually frothing and bubbling! eeeeewwww!!!!

Adult large brown mantid, Archimantis latistyla drinking water from droplets on hosta leaf. All mantids fascinate me, but I find the woody-texture of the brown species even more intriguing than the emerald color of the green ones. After a brief morning shower, I saw this mantid moving among the plants bordering our backyard patio. Click on "All Sizes" to get a much better macro view - the rough texture of her abdomen and thorax really stands out.
She kept turning her head almost 180 degrees to the right to keep a careful eye on a buzzing bee that was nectaring the hosta blossoms nearby. I wondered what the encounter might have been like! After several minutes, the threat disappeared and she slowly bent down and began to drink from a water droplet cradled in a fold in the hosta leaf. All this time she kept watching me with those large, hazy-tan compound eyes.
Like many insects, female mantids have strong and large cerci, the two appendages sticking out from the rear of her abdomen. In this posture, the cerci are tucked inward and resemble a pointed tail. Mantis are carnivors and use their antennae for smell.
One of the more popular cold beverages in Japan is a concoction known as "Pocari Sweat." I believe it's marketed as a sort of sport/energy drink. After eyeing these machines warily for a few days, I finally broke down and tried a can of it. Fortunately it tastes nothing like actual sweat. Rather, it has a fairly refreshing citrus taste to it. I don't usually drink pop, but I'd take it over a Sprite anyday.
