On April 28, 2008, my dreads turned one year old. This collection of photos, however, was not taken until the end of May. So technically, they are one year and one month old in these photos.

My daughter did some maintenance on them for me before we took these photos. She wanted to add some beads. In the process, she did a little twisting and braiding of some skinny ones, in hopes of marrying them well. She was quite happy with her handiwork.

Becky (my friend who dreaded my hair) made this peyote stich for me and I adore it. Isn't it soooo pretty? I wanted to get a close up so you could see it in all it's glory. I'm on the hunt for more beads and goodies.

My brother, Dan, ran around with my camera at a recent potluck...snapping some photos and he "caught" me.

I found this colored hemp in Brattleboro, VT when we were there, and I brought it down to Becky in South Carolina...and she used it to combine a few of my crazier dreads. It's definitely BRIGHT!

I braided my dreads into two braids. They are getting longer. Some are past my shoulders some are down my back a little. I know that the less I fuss with them the healthier they are. I don't think I will be doing this often because my head does not like the tension even though it is not braided tight. I have gone over a year without dyeing my hair and my locks thank me for it. For me letting my hair lock means total freedom from all things artificial and that includes hair coloring. It is just too damaging to my hair and my locks just want to be free!

I dressed up for a costume party that my husband's band played at. I was Medusa.
