The model we were supposed to have for this session (one of our regulars, who shall remain nameless) cancelled at short notice. Fortunately Robert was able to find a replacement. Nigel has posed for the group before, but not since I joined them.
I arrived a bit late for the session, just in time to catch the last two minutes of what I think was the first pose (which would make it a 15 minute pose). Rather than start in my usual sketchbook I decided to launch straight in with a charcoal drawing on A3 paper.
I think this was a good move as this enabled me to use a looser style that worked better for what was effectively a very short pose.
Lunchtime life drawing session at work. 90 seconds, done with zen brush app on iPad (using a 1 pixel brush). I like the way the pen bleeds when i stop moving the stylus - it has a bit of a felt marker feel.
I read J.M. Coetzee's NY Review of Books critique of Norman Mailer's new book on Adolf Hitler's childhood to my morning class while they drew me. The drawings began when I started reading, ended when I finished the article--about 45 minutes.

This is the 2nd drawing I did with the newly made walnut ink. Since the ink was too watery for my 1st sketch "Bottles of Walnut Ink", www.flickr.com/photos/49028620@N04/5043027045/in/photostr... I simmered the 10 ounces Marie had given me to 5 ounces. It was much improved. I only had to dip my pen 4 times for this drawing. The color was a darker brown.

A drawing I just did of my friend, Trish Grantham's dog, Pablo who was recently seriously injured when another dog attacked him. Trish and Pablo are recuperating from the accident but because of Pablo's delicate condition, Trish has to stay home to help him 24/7. These are borrowed and imagined from the figures in the Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting, a classical Chinese text on the art of painting which was printed using woodblock prints in the mid-1600s.
This drawing shows the roofs of “Qokang“ (Tibetan Buddhism temple, in Lhasa). The style of this temple is unique. I was impressed by the decorations on roof which have wheel like things with two animals around, all have beautiful golden coding, while the outside of walls are covered by thick carpet.
