Saturday Self-Challenge: Dramatic Picture

This was an interesting challenge. There are many different interpretations. At first I thought the most obvious was an image with a dramatic story, but after looking at examples provided in articles on the topic, I realized that lighting can also provide a dramatic, eye-catching mood. I happened to glance over at a couple of my teddy bears being illuminated by late afternoon sun, and had to capture it.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

The coloured version is one of my favorite shot, this round I convert into b&w & create a more dramatic processing.

How do you think?

The view from Maiden Rock Bluff is a spectacular one - train or no train.

I got an idea to hike the bluff train within the Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area on day before Christmas Eve seeing as there was no snow. The bluff had been high on my wish list. Views from the various vistas are amazing, and I was gifted a train rolling along the shores of Lake Pepin while I was admiring the scene. I was hoping a train would show up, and one fortunately did! I have admired others' Mississippi River bluff railroad photos, so I was pleased to get one myself.

While Eastern Cottonwood have already lost their leaves by mid-October, other decicuous trees are just reaching their peak.

I run and run as the rains come

And I look up, I look up,

on my knees and out of luck,

I look up.

Black Rock Mountain State Park - Georgia

No one puts on a better show than mother nature. While we were getting flooded down in the canyons of Havasu, the rims of the Grand Canyon were blanketed with a winter coat. Eighteen inches of snow fell overnight and the temperatures dropped to the low teens. The access road was closed with some hikers stranded overnight in the parking lot of the trailhead. The Supai natives opened their learning center to accommodate campers who lost their gear in the flood. Although warm, it was a night without electricity or food.

The following day, we were able to drive out just before the last light. High winds had caused snow to drift creating beautiful patterns. Bands of low-lying fog moved through the valley, sending us off with the most atmospheric sunset. We relished these last few moments of our memorable weekend. We laughed and re-lived memories of our scramble out of the midnight flood. We then all took a moment to appreciate the meaningful connections made on this trip.

Stormy clouds loom over a rocky coastline where waves crash against the shore in a captivating seascape.

Dramatic skies over England this weekend. I was about two miles walk from home and hoping it didn't rain but I had to take a few shots.

What you can recognize in the upper cloud?

It was a gray day on October 31, 2022 when I walked by the Mohawk River in Clifton Park, New York, USA & the clouds gathered. The view over the river was lovely!

The Tombstone mountains are photogenic at nearly any given moment, even during daytime with strong winds and rain there are some interesting scenes to be found. Here's some wave action at Divide Lake, at a stones throw away from the camp. We only spent one night at this lake, by far not enough to take in all of this the beauty, let alone capture it.

A lot of drama on this december morning

I got a shot of the sky while walking from my biology lecture in the late morning.

Dramatic sunset light on this majestic mountain!

A trip to Taiwan last winter had a lot of overcast days with light rain, and the day trip to Yehliu Geopark was no different.

Yehliu Geopark is home to many interesting rock formations. I really like the coastline here with very intricately carved features and the wide variety of different shapes.

Cada noche la misma luna me a visto suspirar

mirar al cielo y estar a punto de llorar

cada noche las mismas estrellas me escuchan susurrar
