Azizi had a visit to the vet today. He has had some white discharge coming out of his nose and the suspected respiratory infection was correct. He also very sweetly agreed to having his claws clipped!!!
I'm now tasked with giving him a nebuliser three times a day and giving him a minute dosage of antibiotic twice a day.
Wish me luck!! though I suspect he will embrace his treatment the laid back way he embraces the photography!!

Fomatone 132, Lithprint (Kontakt von einem Kallitypie Drucknegativ) mit speziell für Fomatone Papier abgestimmten Easy Lith FT.
sroll down for English
ENGLISH
Fomatone and Foma Retrobrom are the only papers currently in production that can be used for colourful lith prints. Oriental Warmtone is also a Fomatone emulsion since some years.
In recent years, errors have occurred in the lithing of Foma papers. According to Foma, the cause is a different gelatine quality from batch no. 0777 onwards. With development times of more than 6 minutes, both larger circular spots (snowball effect) and structures reminiscent of marble surfaces can appear.
For the SE5 Lith developer I have already pointed out several times how to avoid these defects. For the ready-tuned Easy Lith there is of course also the possibility to prevent this evil by adding Lith D and a modified workflow. For users who want to lith exclusively with Fomatone or Retrobrom papers, I can offer a variant of the Easy A concentrate, which already contains the necessary amount of development retarders.
At first glance, it may not seem plausible to suggest short development times as a solution to the problem on the one hand and to use a higher dosage of retarding substances on the other. For the sake of understanding, Ie would like to point out the relationship between a high amount of light for coloured results and the resulting necessity of a high dilution of the developer in order to achieve both coloured highlights and deep lith shadows at times between 8 and 12 minutes. Until a few years ago, this is how the process worked. However, to avoid the faults mentioned above, development with the current batches of Fomatone should be completed after about 6 minutes. So if coloured results (as in the past) are desired, the paper needs a strong overexposure. However, the developer must not be heavily diluted to avoid too fast development. With the suggested mixture of 50ml A + 50ml B on approx. 900ml water, the development process would have to be interrupted after 2-3 minutes, a real lith effect cannot be created in this way. If, however, a retarder is added to such fat developers, you will end up with development times of between 5 and 6 minutes for a given amount of light (for high colourfulness). If a second bath is used, be it a pure alkaline solution or another developer, no defects occur, even if the total development time can then be 8 minutes or more.
With the concentrates specially adapted for Fomatone, the working solution can be prepared with slightly less B if a second bath with alkaline solution should be necessary. For example, 5 ml B can be used to prepare the second bath with approx. 500 ml water.

I received the first dosage of my vaccine against covid-19 today. Science says I will be protected 3 weeks after the second dose on March 10, that is, in 51 days from today.
Almost normal life in a few days.
The Brazilian state I live in, São Paulo, manufactures vaccines against covid-19 and many others. The São Paulo Butantan Institute partnered with the Sinovac laboratory and both of these laboratories produce the CoronaVac vaccine, the "vaccine from Brazil".
From the fight of the Brazilian president (negationist, terraplanist and genocidal) and the governor of my state, the governor won this battle too.
Long live the science!

Such big firm tomatoes are ideal for a dish called Xihongshi Chao Jidan (西红柿炒鸡蛋, English: "scrambled eggs with tomatoes"). Softer tomatoes would turn to mush in the wok.
The ingredients of this extremely popular dish are one big firm tomato, four beaten eggs and one spring onion. Cut the tomato into small cubes and the spring onion into small pieces and in the meantime heat oil in a wok over high heat. Add the onions, then the tomatoes and finally the beaten eggs and stir everything while seasoning with salt and sugar. The whole thing has to go very quickly, but then the dish is already finished. It is served with or without rice.
The secret of this wonderfully simple but tasty dish is the sugar resp. its dosage. Ideally, people who are not familiar with the preparation wonder why this simple dish tastes so wonderfully delicious without realising that it is because of the sugar.

All modern soft-gel encapsulation uses variations of a process developed by R. P. Scherer in 1933. His innovation was to use a rotary die to produce the capsules, with the filling taking place by blow molding. This method reduced wastage, and was the first process to yield capsules with highly repeatable dosage.
Softgels can be an effective delivery system for oral drugs, especially poorly soluble drugs. This is because the fill can contain liquid ingredients that help increase solubility or permeability of the drug across the membranes in the body. Liquid ingredients are difficult to include in any other solid dosage form such as a tablet.
Digitalis purpurea, also known as the common foxglove, is a pretty addition to any garden, like the one along El Prado in Balboa Park.
However, the plant produces digitoxin, which can prove fatal to humans and some animals. The cardiac glycosides of this flower are used in some medical applications, and have been since the late 18th century, but the dosage must be very carefully applied, otherwise it could prove fatal.

This image was done with the camera on the floor and the head hanging down from a desk. It helps when 'madness' is your subject.
Used sublingual morphine syringes. In the past I imagined that, for someone in hospice, taking morphine would, in addition to reducing pain and alleviating shortness of breath, also give a 'high'. Not so. Morphine addresses those symptoms, and, in general, 'takes the edge off', but there is no drug high. And, as with all drugs, there are numerous side effects. Requires a constant process of assessing the benefits, vs. the side effects, of increasing or decreasing the dosage.

I composed this image of Wild Foxglove flowers while hiking along them Brittany Coast, in France. This wildflower grows in abundance there, along with many other wildflower varieties. Foxglove plants are prolific seed-producers, and have been labelled as an invasive species in parts of NW North America. At the same time, Foxglove is a popular garden flower.
Foxglove flowers originally hail from Europe. The name of this dastardly, but lovely, plant likely comes from the Anglo-Saxon word "foxes glofa" (meaning the glove of the fox) because original admirers thought the flower resembled the fingers of a glove. It's also thought to be tied to an Irish legend in which foxes would put the flowers on their feet to muffle the sound of their steps.
Foxgloves are biennials, which means that it takes two seasons for them to perpetuate an entire life cycle. During the first year, the plant produces merely a dense rosette of leaves. The second year will see the trademark blooms reliably burst forth. The plant then dies.
Ingesting a foxglove plant can be fatal, particularly if it's done just before the seeds ripen, when the plant is most toxic. The leaves are also deadly. The thing about foxgloves is that the very properties that make them dangerous are the same that make them helpful in medical circles. If ingested, the plant's inherent chemicals, known as cardiac glycosides, will make the heart pump harder.
This can spell big trouble for many people whose hearts pump at a good rate already. A dose of foxglove (whether eating the seeds or making a tea with the leaves) acts like taking a dose of heart medication and can make the heart slow down or become dangerously irregular. Symptoms of foxglove poisoning include dizziness, vomiting, irregular heartbeat and hallucinations.
For those who don't have such well-functioning tickers, however, foxgloves (when formulated correctly) can literally be a life-saver. This was discovered way back in the late 1700s, and as a result the foxglove has been used in some form or fashion since to help treat congestive heart failure as well as irregular heartbeat.
The drug's name is digitalis and is made from the dried leaves of the foxglove. Still, there's a thin line between safe and dangerous dosage of foxgloves for medicinal purposes, so it's best to leave it to the professionals who know how to make medications safely and specifically.

This is the third (or fourth?) time these Lima-Cincinnati turn trains have been reinstated on the Toledo Subdivision in as many years, and with them comes an increased dosage of older CSX EMDs in what has already been a fairly interesting summer, motive power wise. Today's train is no exception, featuring one of four remaining CSX SD50s and one of a few dozen active Road Slug sets. It was quite a sight to see these lashed together and working hard on the road in 2020.

Himalayan salt, often called pink salt, is a type of rock salt mined from the Salt Range mountains in Pakistan, particularly near the Khewra Salt Mine. It's famous for its distinctive pink color, which comes from trace minerals like magnesium, potassium, and calcium.
Here are a few quick facts:
Uses: Commonly used in cooking, as bath salts, or in salt lamps for decorative and claimed therapeutic purposes.
Health claims: Some believe it has detoxifying or respiratory benefits, but scientific evidence is limited.
Flavor: Slightly milder than regular table salt, with a unique mineral
Granules are small particles or grains that typically range in size from very fine to coarse. They can occur naturally or be manufactured and are often used to describe materials that are solid, dry, and granular in texture.
Granules In Different Contexts:
Biology / Cell Biology:
Granules are small structures within cells, often involved in storage or secretion of substances.
Examples: Secretory granules in glands, granules in platelets (important for blood clotting), or cytoplasmic granules.
Pharmaceuticals:
Granules refer to a dosage form made of aggregated powdered ingredients.
They improve flowability, compressibility, and can be used for sustained release medications.
Food Industry:
Granules can refer to coarse grains of salt, sugar, coffee (like instant coffee), or seasoning mixes.
They often dissolve easily in water and are used for quick preparation.
Geology:
Refers to a specific particle size category of sediment, typically between sand and pebbles (~2–4 mm).
Found in riverbeds, beaches, and sedimentary rocks.
Astronomy:
Granules on the Sun are convection cells visible on its surface (photosphere).
They appear as bright areas with darker edges, caused by the movement of hot plasma.

I rarely use Lith E. It was originally designed to reduce the colourfulness of lith prints or to accentuate the grain. The papers for which it was intended are no longer manufactured today.
The effect of this additive and the role played by the paper emulsions can be demonstrated using two examples of papers that could hardly be more different.
First, Ilford Art 300. This paper is not really suitable for the lith process because the developer mixtures normally used do not produce lith black, even with very long development times, which is not surprising because the emulsion is very similar to that of MGWT.
With a developer mixture of 40 ml A + 40 ml B to 800 ml water, the addition of 10 ml E (diluted 1+4) ensures rapid blackening of the shadows after a relatively short development time (2-4 minutes).
The graininess that results has nothing to do with the grain structure of the negative. The grain clusters become more intense the higher the dosage and the longer the exposure time. The increase in colourfulness with longer exposure times is significantly lower here. If more colour is desired, toning can of course be used.
Left 12 seconds exposure, right 18 seconds exposure.
An update on Gracie: After 2 doses per day of thyroid meds for a period of 3 weeks, the vet checked her thyroxin level and found it had dropped to such a degree that he recommended we change to a single dose of the medication per day. Earlier, Gracie seemed very lethargic. Now that the dosage for her thyroid pills has been reduced, Gracie seems to be alert and tolerating the daily pill each morning. We pulverize the pill, dissolve it in 3 ml of water, place it in a syringe and deliver the medicine with the syringe. (She's sleeping in this photo, but has not been doing so to unnatural extent.) In a few weeks, the vet will check her thyroid activity again.
A smokey and very different tasting honey.(a slightly bitter taste and then the sweetness hits) One teaspoon 45 minutes before bed acted like a strong sedative. Slept very deeply throughout the night. Maybe someday when I want to take a trip without leaving the farm, I'll be bold and increase the dosage. The most exotic honey I have ever owned. This brand is from Nepal. Local honey hunters risk their lives because the altitude is so high(about 8000 ft or higher) and the rugged remote mountains make it a dangerous adventure to just get to the special location where this prized honey is located. The bees that make this magical honey are the largest bees in the world, about 2 times larger than the average honey bee.

“Our life was full of pills,” AA Bronson recalled of the early 1990s, “so they became part of our work.” At first, General Idea made a set of three pill-Shaped sculptures named after the drugs Amoxicillin, Bacampicillin and Carbenicillin. The pills kept replicating. The five coffin-sized units in One Day of AZT reference the daily dose of antiviral drug Felix Partz was taking. One Year of AZT represents his annual dosage: 1825 pills, which he called his “little helpers.”
Elegiac and quietly moving, these two works were made near the end of General Idea’s practice. The installation is intended to overwhelm, enfolding is in a pharmacological universe.

I have been overdosing on Vitamin D but was unaware of it. This is a friendly reminder to double check your dosages, too much of a good thing can be harmful. At least now I have extra photo props.
The gain in knowledge is usually greater with difficult negatives. That's why I chose an older, very high-contrast negative (Efke R25) to test the limits of the new Fomatone batch.
So that even less experienced lithprinters can understand the problem with high-contrast negatives with extremely high light density, I will explain it again here.
To get a higher level of colour, the image has to be heavily overexposed. Strong overexposure requires a higher dilution of the lith developer in order to prevent a too fast blackening of shadows and midtones. However, at dilutions of 1+20 or higher, the developer is less stable, making reproducible results difficult. A higher dosage of restrainers such as potassium bromide or Lith D is therefore more sensible than a higher dilution.

1st attempt of course already with overexposure

The S-92B is an anti-aircraft platform in service with the Zlovenian National Army.
Inspired by conspicuous amounts of vodka and Kop-Tek Industry's attempt at mounting a silly gun on the back of a truck, the engineers at Zlovenia Arms Incorporated decided to do the same thing. The result was a 20mm chain gun mounted on the platform of an S-53 Kuše SAM system. With 2 MANPADs because why the hell not at this point, the reasoning went.
And so, with a health dosage of military-industrial complex and a dash of alcohol, the S-92B somehow went into production as an actual thing.
In service, the S-92B, despite it's interesting origins, has actually proved to be a quite effective, if expensive, point defense system.

What a beautiful place to be tonight... The golden light through the trees gave the autumn colors a painterly look against the softness of the lake's water. I wish I had discovered this place last Autumn as last year I was quite homesick for a dosage of Colorado fall. But everything happens in its own time and season for it's own reason. I do believe I needed to see it more this season than last year if that makes any sense at all. It's been a long time since I have been able to drink so deeply of the beauty of Autumn. Perhaps being thirsty to see beauty is sometimes what causes us to enjoy it more than what we would have in a different chapter in life... And sadly sometimes that need is caused by pain and change. As sad as it is I think we appreciate beauty more when we have experienced the opposite of it. How can we not appreciate the light more if we have spent time in the dark...
The holidays are around the corner. What is it about holidays that makes grief so raw, so real? I'm not ready for them to be honest. I would rather sit here for days on end in a dream where these colors never fade and this song plays tenderly for me through the trees.

Liquid ingredients are difficult to include in any other solid dosage form such as a tablet.
Lithium is an old psychotropic prescribed to help manage extreme fluctuations in mood. Interestingly, it's a drug that seems to have made a return in recent years to psychiatry, because of its relatively saf(er) adverse effects, in comparison to some of the other, old and less familiar, medication.
It is a known fact that medication can, and does help, though it does run a risk, (if the dosage is incompatible), to flattening, or rather, a blunting, of one's affections. It is often heard that people feel a sense of disconnect and dissociation from reality; a mere act of watching as the world moves by, from the comfort of their passenger-seat...

In Medieval dwellings, floors were carpeted with rushes, reeds or straw, for insulation and to provide bedding for members of the lower household. These floor coverings were only cleaned out and replaced once or twice a year, so to counteract the accumulated odours, fragrant herbs were scattered (strewn) on top of them, releasing their scents when they were walked upon. Some of these herbs also acted as insect and pest repellants.
With regards to Meadowsweet, John Gerard said that Queen Elizabeth 1st “did more desire it than any other herb to strew her chambers withal.”
Meadowsweet has continued to be used for medicinal purposes - for headaches (it contains aspirin), rheumatism, acid reflux, and poor digestion (as it sooths the mucous membranes in the intestines).
There ! And you thought it was just a weed growing in the countryside meadows, didn't you !
This is from a wild area in our local park and now stands looking lovely and smelling delicious in the kitchen. Taken with a 4x magnifying filter on my lens - I'm quite pleased with it for a first attempt :o) The flowers are tiny - about 1 millimetre across. Hope you like it too !
Thanks, as always, for your support and for just looking and reading ... you are all so appreciated. Please don't eat meadowsweet without checking out whether it's safe for you ... I don't know the dosage or how to prepare it !

Since three years Cortez has diabetes. In the beginnen it was difficult to find the right dosage, but for 2 1/2 year he was stable on a low dosis. Cortez is doing well again. 6 weeks ago the bloodsugar level was high again. I have raised the insuline slowly and now he is back to normal again

Update: 2 july:
Again much to high bloodsugar levels. I have to raise the insuline again.

- soft-gels
All modern soft-gel encapsulation uses variations of a process developed by R. P. Scherer in 1933. His innovation was to use a rotary die to produce the capsules, with the filling taking place by blow molding. This method reduced wastage, and was the first process to yield capsules with highly repeatable dosage.
