Roe deer doe at dusk, during the days around midsummer you were able to shoot until 10PM with the light becoming softer the later it gets. This roe deer doe was very relaxed between the dunes feeding on bushes and grass untill a dog off leash chased her off. Although there is a leash duty along the whole coast of the national park most dog owners don't care and if you tell them about it they're getting mad at you. In the recent years it got even worse as the number of dogs is increasing steadily... the potential of conflicts will be growing - not every kind of wildlife will be fast enough to escape...

Nordfriesland, Germany

This Fallow Doe came in to investigate and see what was going on, she also enjoyed devouring all of the nuts that had been put out for the birds.

It rhymes (does is plural for doe a female deer)!

I wanted a shot of the multitude of the bales in their rows, and then spotted the deer in the distance - so angled the shot toward them - I actually like this better than my original straight on shot.

Thanks so much for the visit!

We were actually waiting for a stag when suddenly this curious doe stuck her head above the bracken to see what was going on.

These beautiful creatures live in our woods and often greet us (kind of) as we come and go down the lane.

This stag was close to the road in Glen Etive, keeping his eye on his large harem - he must have had a very successful rut! He certainly wasn't shy, seemingly posing for the camera, but all the while watching his girls. He sure makes me wish I was still a young doe...

It's an exciting break from winter birds when the neotropicals return to the Oklahoma Cross Timbers and the whitetails begin to fawn. Right now spring is my favorite season, but come fall I'll be saying the same thing about autumn.

We saw our first fawns of 2025 today, and one of them belongs to this beautiful doe. It was standing with her when we approached in the truck, and she immediately sent it back into the shadows. We sat here awhile, but it was obvious she did not want to introduce her fawn to the world today.

Our beautiful world, pass it on.

One of my regular visitors. There are three of them that wander through just about everyday. This one was munching on what I call a weed tree and I wish she would eat all of them!

It’s called leucism and the animal that has the trait is called leucistic. More commonly, deer that have this characteristic are known as piebald deer. Like albinism, leucism is a recessive genetic disorder. This means that in order for an animal to manifest the trait it has to carry two copies of the abnormal gene – one from the mother and one from the father. Although not as rare as true albinism, piebald deer represent no more than about 2 percent of the deer population. They are protected from hunting in some states and by folklore that suggests that killing one can bring you a heap of bad luck. The genetic variation frequently brings a variety of other deformities as the result of which many don’t survive to adulthood. Consider yourself lucky if you see one. Most people go a lifetime without ever catching a glimpse.

This doe was studying me, to determine whether I was a threat. She eventually trotted a short ways away but did not run. The deer on our property are accustomed to me and my camera and usually aren't too spooked by me unless someone has been hunting nearby. A recent walk in the woods showed me the curiosity of a deer.

Most of the mature does are carrying fawns. In Central Oklahoma most are born in late May/early June. Looking forward to shooting some of those little spotted beauties. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

If you look closely, you can see the blood on her nose from those nasty flies that won't leave her alone.

Golden hour in the Oklahoma Cross Timbers. The fawns have matured a lot over the summer. In just a few weeks they will begin to lose their spots. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Mom takes time to smell the flowers before returning to tend to her young fawns.

We really enjoy all the little spotted fawns! Saw one really small one this morning. It was later than the others, for sure. I have some unprocessed photos, but in deep shade, so I don't know if they will work out or not.

Nuthin' prettier than a little spotted fawn.
