Ohio Northern University’s Elzay Gallery of Art will showcase the work of artist Dawn Gattler during a special exhibit titled louder than silence. An opening reception will be held Friday, January 18 at 5p.m. in the gallery and the Wilson Art Center.
Dawn will be creating a site-specific installation for the Elzay Gallery. In essence, the installation will be created especially for the gallery space. The installation will provide viewers with the experience of being surrounded by the work.
Dawn Gettler’s installations are inevitably temporary and exist permanently through documentation. There is rhythm in the labor of making that is not often apparent in a completed work. According to Dawn, the action of making can manifest into many things; it can be ugly, painful, and unforgiving; and more often than not, it can be beautiful. In many ways she hopes to create a more romantic and desirable memory for herself.
Dawn Gettler received a BFA in printmaking from The University of Northern Iowa in 2003. She went on to get her MFA from Ohio University in 2006. Dawn has been an artist in residence at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Spiro Arts, ART342, The KHN Center for the Arts, andSpudnik Press in Chicago. In 2010, Dawn was the summer artist in residence at artspace in Raleigh, NC. In 2012, she was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a full fellowship residency at Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, New York. This past summer her work was included in an invitational exhibition, Beaten and Bound, at the Lubenzik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, Indiana. Gettler had solo exhibitions this fall at Illinois Central College, Rx: a Pharmacy Gallery, in Springfield, IL, and Swim in Chicago, IL. Dawn has upcoming solo shows at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio and the Buckham Gallery in Michigan. Gettler currently lives and works in Chicago.
Admission to the Elzay and Stambaugh galleries is free and open to the public, daily from noon to 5 p.m. while school is in session. The Stambaugh Studio Theatre Gallery is also open prior to events held at Ohio Northern’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts. I just can't let go of these 1988 World Book Encyclopedias. We bought them for our children and they used them all the way through middle and high school. They've been bypassed by technology, but I still find myself referring to them occasionally.

Here is the company's logo laser cut from 1/4" maple plywood. I just did this today! I've worked tons with the laser but never using vector graphics before. You have to use vectors to cut. There are four of them total (plus on extra in case anything gets screwed up). It's for the tradeshow booth we are producing for Telltale Games to take to PAX in Seattle.
To do this i used the laser at Techshop in Menlo Park.
this is a documentation of an installation i did in various places in jerusalem: a traffic sign directing "LISTEN". the sign was printed in three languages - hebrew, arabic and english, as used on traffic signs in israel - and using the fonts that usually appear on israeli road signs.

How to be a man & a father.
I'm usually against reading such books, but the Wife digs the author and reading a few of his books made me aware of the shortcomings in my upbringing and how they shaped me into what i am today -and how i might be able to use this knowledge in trying to make my kid a Mensch.
And frankly, i'm so far away from considering myself a man in the "classic" sense that i need someone to point it out to me.
Pocket watch documentation that included precise, pen drawings and continuous line drawings. The line drawings then became the basis for my first zine.
Due to an impending rim swap, i hurried out to take my car for a photoshoot, for my personal record.
This was taken at the rooftop parking of a local mall, as tipped to me by a fellow car club member.
