He enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts to study sculpture under Alajos Strobl. At this time he met his wife, Ilona Komocsin (1885-1974), who became a notable painter after finishing her studies in Szeged. During World War I as a soldier he was appointed as an official war artist in Sarajevo for which he received the Order of Franz Josef. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts (1911-46) and at the Technical University (1921-44). He was rector of the Academy between 1943 and 1945. He was largely responsible for the building of the so called Bory castle in Szekesfehervar which is decorated by his and his wife's works.

I am hoping that I will get some lovely Lincoln's Sparrow shots this fall. So far they have been elusive. I have decided to keep all the pictures anyway. One of these birds was in my son's front yard. :)

It was initially intended for the new university to take over the endowments and activities of Mason University College; both newly appointed and existing professors would be university staff. A public meeting was held on 1 July 1898 at which Joseph Chamberlain was able to present a list of donors who had promised part of the sum needed for the university to be established. Chamberlain used his position as Colonial Secretary to target extremely wealthy individuals including the Canadian High Commissioner, Scottish emigrant Donald Smith, now Lord Strathcona who eventually promised £50,000.

These letters document the process by which Joseph Chamberlain was able to secure Andrew Carnegie’s substantial gift of £50,000 some of which was put towards the construction of new buildings for science teaching at the university.

At first Carnegie was reluctant for his gift to be used to fund additional academic posts and wanted it to be spent on new buildings for science teaching. Chamberlain tried to explain that the Mason College building already provided what was required and that the money was desperately needed to fund new posts. Carnegie was convinced that whatever buildings and apparatus already existed at Mason College would not be suitable for a modern scientific university and threatened to withdraw his offer unless the money was spent as he wished, prompting Chamberlain’s diplomatic response explaining recent scientific investment in Mason College but promising to seek Carnegie’s advice regarding the purchase of additional apparatus and to arrange a visit to higher education institutions in North America to see scientific facilities there if he was given freedom to spend the money as it was needed. Carnegie agreed to this, and conceded that part of his donation could be used for endowment if part was spent on buildings and equipment.
