This document cabinet was moved to the signal maintainers shed when the Waupaca depot closed. It was recently returned to the depot. I filled it with player piano rolls.

Some new arrivals for the humidor :)

This is is how I've been learning kanji. With the help of Kanji Land at About.com.

Otherwise known as meaningless jargon. There is a lot of it in the public sector in Britain. It makes me cross.

Anyway, my institution has decided they must have more clinical input into management. So I had to apply for another job in addition to the full time one I already have. Perhaps I will not get it. Which will be a relief.

Zagrabiense calendarium ad annum bissextilem Jesu Christi MDCCCVIII [1808]...

Zagrabiae: typis C. R. Privil. Novoszelianis, [1808].

A Calendarium Zagrabiense (illetőleg a Calendarium Varasdiniense) kötetei az 1770-es évek óta közöltek címjegyzékeket, a dikasztériumok mellett a vármegyék és szabad királyi városok tisztikaráról is. Mivel Horvátország és Szlavónia „kapcsolt” résznek számítottak, megtalálhatók benne a magyarországi kormányszékek címtárai is.

It's merely survival of animals with a lighter color that continue to breed and thrive over several generations (i.e. genetic variation). This doesn't bring about massive physiological changes in species (such as extremely precise and complex chemical process, cells tissues organs that function as systems on micro and macro scales etc), no matter how many zeros we put behind the year count. The vast number of documented true mutations in recorded history have been at best neutral, and most often detrimental to the animal's survival rate, leading to death without reproducing, so how can compounding such mutations lead to a benefit for the organism? It is an impossibility.

Think of all the mutations or abnormalities you've seen in humans and animals in your lifetime, either in the news or personal experience. They almost always suffer severe negative effects and usually shortened lifespans. If evolution were true, we should have many examples of mutagenic benefit after all these years of study, but there are none.

Consider an eye, and the thousands of necessary mutations you would need to make it, even so-called less complex eyes from fossil records. None of those mutations on their own have a benefit to the organism. It's only collectively after the eye is functioning and complete does it give the organism a "fitness" edge over a branch of similar organisms that may not have evolved such an organ. So how can this eye evolve to its complete state if there was no benefit to the organism's ancestors to get it to this state? Now multiply that by the many anatomical features we see in plants and animals. It ridiculous to think this is due to such a inept process as evolution.

There is no evolution. It only exists in the minds of people based on a very flimsy but well funded, highly publicized fantasy. A fantasy propped up by the mainstream scientific "priesthood" to keep humanity ignorant of our value, our purpose, and our origins from a divine creator.

This scientific priesthood has an interesting past, it's major figures being heavily involved in the occult and demonic practices where their theories were born (documented in their own writings). i.e. they were themselves devoted to a spiritual order that gave them the current "science" we now take for secular truth. It's far from secular and even further from the truth.

In the face of immense opposition to its decision to permit 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, the UPA has had to out its plans on hold. However, it is clear that isjust a temporary move, and the UPA Government remains committed to introduce this policy at all costs. Union Commerce MinisterAnand Sharma, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and their collegues .

are busy telling us that the likes of Walmart, Tesco and Carrefour will create one crore new jobs, ensure tow prices for .

consumers, and a better deal for farmers. Is that so? Fact ofthe matter is: in its own home in the US, Wai-Mart has been struggling since 2005 to open an outlet .

in NewYork, and has been unable to do so due to fierce opposition from local people and unions! Why are NewYorkers opposing Wai-Mart? Because, they say, Wai-Mart is notorious for killing jobs. putting mom-and-pop (family) stores out .

of business and destroying communities, driving down wages. disallowing unions and having extremely lowwages and exploitative working conditions. .

The figures say itall: In Thailand, Argentina, Mexico and Vietnam, prices of fruits and vegetables in supermarkets .

Uc are between 10% and 14% higherthan in traditional markets. Moreover, companies have immense control over prices. In .

the US, supermarkets raised tomato prices by 46% between 1994 and 2004 while real prices paid to producers .

fell by 25%. Even in India, the entry of corporate chains into wheat and grain procurement has coincided with increased .

speculation and increased prices. In Brazil, share of the sales of fruits and vegetables in street markets declined by 27.8% between 1987 and 1996 when .

FDI was introduced. In Argentina, the numberofsmall stores dropped by64,198 between 1984 and 1993-30% of the shops .

in the country. Employment in retail sectordropped by 26% in the same period. So much for claims that FDI will not eat existing jobs amd will not effect the small shopkeeper! .

Moreover. all studies of contract farming and corporate food retail state that small and marginal farmers are unable to .

access the "supply chain". Also, even when farmers doget to supply to multinational giants, good prices for their produce is NO guarantee. For instance,An Oxfam study sho\NS that real export prices for South African apples fell by 33% from 1994-2004, .

and Florida tomato growers found their real prices falling by 25% over same period-While consumer prices in the US rose by .

46% at the same time. Thewell documented abuses of power by corporate retailers include delayed payments. arbitrary quality standards (for .

instance, sudden demands that apples should be exactly 65 mm rather than 63 mm), and passing on of costs for discounts .

and promotions to producers. Moreover, global sourcing of fruits and vegetables puts intense pressure on producers to reduce prices to compete and to satisfy the requirements of the corporate retatlers. .

There are also otherissues involved: FDI in the retail sector promotes "good looks" and long durability overtaste and inJ nutritional value. Therefore, fruits and vegetables in supermarkets tend to have less taste, are lower in nutritional -.

value, and are often picked when unripe. FDI in retail also means a massive increase in use of energy and water for processing. packaging. and transport. For instance, the energy spent on production and sale of one kilogram of rice in the US is 80 times the energy spent by a farmer in the Philippines. One fifth ofall energy spent on transport in the US is spent .

on transportof food. Can India afford this kind ofexpenditure ofenergy and water? FDl in retail will also automatically mean a sharp rise in use of pesticides. additives. preservatives and other chemical agents to increase the shelf life offood. .

with attendant health consequences. 'checks and safeguards' -Of course, in a muted tone, the Government is also claiming to have provided certain restricting foreign retail chains to 51 cities in India and allowing state governments to keep these chains out in specific .

states. But experts have already pointed out that all these claimed 'checks and safeguards' are patently false and sheer false political rhetoric, which have no validity and can never be applied as government is also bound to comply with several other bi-lateral trade and investment agreements and other conditionalities of WTO under which such discriminatory/discretionary applications are ruled out. Let there be no mistake. the Liberallsation-Privatisation-et.obalisation policies have wreaked havoc on jobs and livelihood, workers' rights, agriculture and farmers' survival. Now, it is the retail sector-and the survival of countless family store owners, street vendors, shop employees-that is the target! AI SA appeals to the student community to participate in a Public Meeting tonight (6 January) at Godavari Mess .

from 9 pm onwards, Vv'here Prof. Ravi Srivastava (CSRD/JNU) and Shankar Gopalakrishnan from the Campaign for SuNival and Dignity will be talking about the impacts of FDI in the retail sector. .

Kaplan International Centres Fam trip, November 2014

I ordered some wigs. They made it as far as the local main Post Office depot.

Then they were sent back for some indefinable reason. The sender has the correct address, so that isn't the issue. So, I am loathe to pay shipping again just to have them returned a second time. :'(

So, bye-bye wigs.
