'Liliput'
'The Grand Monophonic Yum Yum'
This is a scan from a notebook belonging to my brother Lawrence who joined The Yummy Fur in late 1994, replacing Stevie Dunbar on drums. He had to learn 39 short songs in a matter of weeks and used this notebook to remind himself how they went. Musical notation of sorts. It sounded amazing - chapeau.
The inscriptions from a book found on the Yoder farm. Gabriel Enty was not a relative, but somehow we got his book. Research shows he was an African American (rare in this part of Schuylkill County) and served in the Civil War.
Book Title: The Complete Letter Writer
Inscription:
"Gabriel Enty
Steal not this book
for fear of shame
for [here] you see the
owners name
Gabriel Enty"
1860 census, Gabriel was living in Hegins Township, Schuylkill County, age 14, with his father Josuah, a farmer.
He apparently tried to enlist in the 5th Massachusetts Colored Cavalry, 9 Feb 1864. Then he enlisted 22 Mar 1864 in Company D, 43rd Colored Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, where he was later a Corporal.
In 1910, he was living in the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, Pa.
In the back of the book, is this inscription (same writing):
Gabriel Enty Baught this Book in Pottsville Pa in July 5 AD 1866.
Gabriel Enty from Mathintongo (Mahantongo) Township Pennsylvania Bought this Book in Pottsvill Price 40 cents.
(I can post pix of the back if anyone wants)

During World War II the Mare Island Naval Shipyard was an important contributor to the efforts of the US Navy. The shipyard has since been closed. The restoration of wetlands and a combination of public, private and commercial uses for the buildings and developed areas are in place or envisioned for the future. As it stands today the area is an incredibly interesting place with ghosts of the past easily available to the photographer in the presence of the amazing old buildings there.
An unhappy legacy of the war effort at Mare Island is toxic waste left behind in some places. Building 225 was the metal plating shop, and has been the subject of much discussion and concern. I have no personal knowledge as to the extent or the causes, but I believe I have heard of similar issues with other military base closures.

A set of four family bible now in my care for safekeeping. The oldest printed in 1819, Oxford Press. All contain recorded birth dates. I traced a lot of family roots with these priceless gems!
The cover of this one says the "Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge 1698 on the cover" although this edition was printed in 1898.

Part of a Set / Slideshow documenting some of the Brighton Japan Festival / Matsuri 祭 June 18-26th 2011.
This shows some of the street layout in Colchester town centre. 'CRGS' marks the way to the school i went to, and 'LLP' marks the office where my mother worked. The crossed line on the right is the railway into St Botolph's station (now Colchester Town). The half-crossed lines in the bottom half denote staircases up the steep hill there.
I found this in a box of old papers. It's probably from the 1990s, and it's clearly drawn by my dad. Neither of us can remember why.
