Trying to catch up on some of the Christmas break films before they disappear from the cinemas. Saw "Life of Pi" yesterday in New Westminster. Saw both "Les Misérables" and "The Hobbit" in Richmond this afternoon (and evening).

In 2014 I started working on a design for our #BritArmyAndFriends reunion at #SpaceFestVI

www.spacefest.info/VI/Over.html

Here is the collection of my brainstorming and the design process:

And additionally some background information:

My latest design features the #NebraSkydisk - one of the most beautiful, astronomical artefacts ever found - until today.

This is the oldest-known image of our cosmos so far, with an estimated age of 3600 years (!!!), the earliest known diagram of the heavens, which makes it one or may be THE most important archaeological discovery of the twenty-first century.

It was discovered on July 4th 1999 near the city of Nebra in Germany and since then fascinates not only the experts.

I have to admit that I fell in love with this beauty as soon as I heard about it several years ago.

And I always wanted to paint it one day.

So what better match could there be than combining this masterpiece, created by stargazers several thousand years ago, who loved observing (and already started understanding) our night sky,

with #SpaceFestVI, which will bring people together again, who come from all around the world to share their love of space and our beautiful blue marble … ?!

NOTE:

This artefact is under the copyright of the

As my design project is an artistic realization for a private travel group, I was kindly given permission to integrate the #NebraSkydisk in my artwork.

Hence I have to emphasize that my artwork may ONLY be shared as per following license:

I herewith explicitly send my thanks to the

STATE OFFICE FOR HERITAGE MANAGEMENT AND ARCHAEOLOGY

- THE STATE MUSEUM OF PREHISTORY IN HALLE / GERMANY -

and I will - as requested - gladly send pictures of my design as well as photos of #SpaceFestVI to the Museum for its collection/exhibition.

It is my pleasure to share the #NebraSkydisk far beyond the borders of Germany - especially during an event which only can take place, because some people started documenting their night-sky-observations thousands of years ago.

#OnceUponATime

One year ago, in April 2013 I was looking forward to an amazing event.

A group of #SpaceTweeps was planning to meet in Tucson / Arizona for #SpaceFestV ( www.spacefest.info/V/Astro.html )

Some of us had met each other in person earlier, some on Facebook several months in advance in a group called the #BritArmyAtSpacefest and some #HonoraryMembers joined our group at #SpaceFest itself.

This event turned out even better than I (and I guess many of us) ever could have imagined!

Meeting like-minded people with a great diversity of backgrounds and professions from literally all over the world in the middle of Arizona and sharing with them at least 4 days, while being amongst some of the most remarkable #SpaceLegends #MoonWalkers #MeteoriteMen #AsteroidHunters #Scientists and other #SPACEHOLIX was unforgettable.

Since that time our group is in regular contact (mostly via social media) and as we didn't want to wait a whole year for #SpaceFestVI , we got together again in November 2013 to share another great event:

We enjoyed our #ItIsStonegengeReunionOClock where our group of about 20 people had the pleasure to getting exclusive access in a private tour to the inner circle of the stones during sunset.

Surrounded by many other highlights and #MiniTweetups in UK this was a brilliant weekend.

Since then we are looking forward to our next reunion at #SpaceFestVI which will take place in Pasadena / California in May 2014 ( www.spacefest.info/VI/Astros.html )

What I had started in 2013 after getting back to painting after a very long time,

became kind of a tradition in the meantime:

Inspired by several #Space- and #ScienceTweetups I painted logos for every event I attended

and got them printed on badges for all participants and also some on t-shirts etc.

And 2013 has been quite a ride :-)

Ten years ago my mother died.

This's me - the day before that, last day at school. I've got no pictures of her, so - so that is all. No creative today.

So I've been l ooking for a good antique document to include in my still life photography. Although there are sources out there, I couldn't really find one that suited me or my price range.

As I was Googling, it hit me... why not print one of the many photos? After moderate tweaking and aging in Paint Shop Pro, I came up with what I think is a reasonable facsimile.

An interesting document on our past - a Fall month program leaflet from 1984.

Pioneer troop diary of our unit from the early 80's, in Socialist-era Hungary. Notable events were recorded by the chronicle-keeper from class 5 to 8 (ages 10 to 14) - cheerful events in our class and the impact of soviet / communist propaganda can all be traced here...

Úttörő őrsünk naplója a nyolcvanas évek első feléből, a szocializmus idejéből. Az aktuális krónikás feljegyezte az osztályunk emlékezetes eseményeit, valamint megemlékezett a kommunista propaganda által megkívánt ünnepekről, évfordulókról.

Bergen-Belsen..

I've been here several times and I'm sure I'll visit again on my travels up North... Unexpectedly, it is always a place where I enjoy taking photographs. Perhaps it is something to do with all the space and the fact that it is often very quiet and sparsely populated.
