This shows some of the street layout in Colchester town centre. 'CRGS' marks the way to the school i went to, and 'LLP' marks the office where my mother worked. The crossed line on the right is the railway into St Botolph's station (now Colchester Town). The half-crossed lines in the bottom half denote staircases up the steep hill there.
I found this in a box of old papers. It's probably from the 1990s, and it's clearly drawn by my dad. Neither of us can remember why.
Afro Mexican Men, 1910
During the slavery era within the Americas, Mexico and Peru combined were the largest importer of African slaves. The slave importing United States from the same era was the second.
As with their African Diaspora kinfolk in the U.S., other parts of North, Central and South America and in the Caribbean, they are able to claim a diverse "ethnic" heritage, coming in every beautiful and handsome shade of skin and etc.
We're related--you and I
You from the West Indies,
I from Kentucky.
Kinsmen--you and I,
You from Africa,
I from the U.S.A.
Brothers--you and I.
Brothers by Langston Hughes
This poem is pretty obvious as it embraces and celebrates a "one people" among African folk and people of African descent wherever they happen to be in the world.
"The A-bomb devastated nearly all administrative agencies and destroyed official documents. Thus, the exact number of deaths due to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima remains unknown. Many victims were never identified.
According to a document submitted by the city of Hiroshima to the United Nations in 1976 entitled 'For the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons and the Reduction of All Armed Forces and All Armaments,' an estimated 140,000 (±10,000) people died as a result of the A-bomb between August 6, 1945, and the end of December that year."

9227 CSS Chattahoochee, Center Gallery- Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, 1002 Victory Dr., Columbus, Muscogee, GA. April 17, 2014. Decimal degrees: 32.448203, -84.980960
“CSS Chattahoochee”
“CSS Chattahoochee Model: Built by Ozzie Raines and donated to the Museum in 2005, this model shows the wide beam, shallow draft and relatively flat hull that suited the ship well for river travel.
2 Boot Socks: Belonged to Lt. J.J. Guthrie, in command of the Chattahoochee.
3 Pocket Knife: Found with the remains of the Chattahoochee. Pocket knives were very common among sailors, and this artifact likely belonged to one of the enlisted crewmen.
4 Lt. J.J. Guthrie: Original pre-war photograph of Guthrie, probably taken in 1852.
5 Battle Axe Head: The remains of a battle axe, found with the Chattahoochee. These axes, despite their name, were typically used as tools, not weapons.
6 Boarding Pike Head: Found with the remains of the CSS Chattahoochee, thus documenting the continued use of this age-old naval item.
7 Austrian Bayonet: Both US and Confederate forces imported weapons from Europe to augment their own production ability. This bayonet, produced in Austria, was recovered from the Chattahoochee.
8 Lt. J.J. Guthrie Sword: This Model 1853 US Navy Officer’s Sword was purchased by Guthrie before resigning his US Navy Commission to join the Confederacy. Engraved on the sword and scabbard are Guthrie’s name and the year 1861.
9 Model 1841 Cutlass: Widely used by the Confederate Navy, who captured large numbers as states seceded, this pre-war model cutlass was also copied and produced in large numbers in the South. This particular sword, recovered with the Chattahoochee, bears a unique alteration at the hilt; an 1860 US penny has been added to the tang, possibly to secure the now-missing wooden grip.
10 Grapping Hook: Used to snag floating items or to catch the rigging or rails of another ship to pull it closer for boarding, these were standard naval equipment. This example was recovered with the CSS Chattahoochee.”

I have begun a family history project to document some of the objects that some members of my family have by drawing them from photographs or life. I have been doing some family history research (both documentary and oral) and hope to document some of these articles with the stories surronding them and the person that owned them.
The drawings are all scattered theough my Moleskine sketchbooks, and ususally left as stand alone drawings at the moment. I am no sure that I would have drawn the objects the same if they were in a special book for family history.
One day... I shall scan and put these all together into a book. The research is currently on hold , and is a lfelong project.
I've drawn both of these before.
Any suggestions for scanning graphite pencil to capture the subtleties. I scanned it at 200dpi and adjusted the settings around - no success
