A sad day today. Bea's piano teachers mum passed away on Christmas day and it was her funeral (a very brave fight with cancer, she was only 52). One of her very brave daughters got up in church and sang the first verse of Fields of Gold and we joined in with the rest.

Made by myself by a cheap Chinese dipping pen and Russian black ink. This are Cyrillic letters with some Gothic style. Unfortunately uppercase is in different style compared to the lowercase. Will have to practice more and to find some pump-pen.

This was a split second before the bull rider hit the ground at the Lakeside Rodeo. He had a very good ride, but getting off of the bull is never easy or gentle. And then there's someone with a camera in his face. It's much clearer viewed large, by pressing "L".

This public print from December 1826 tells of someone discovering dead bodies in crates about to shipped at the Broomielaw. They were thereafter removed to the Town's Hospital, and the writer declares that 'since dead bodies are necessary for dissection, it is much better that they be brought from Ireland, than that our own church-yards should be robbed.'

Enlightening and fascinating....adultery, corruption, and even murder are documented in her diary...Ulrich does an excellent job of reading between the lines and cross referencing other available diaries and documents of the time. Who would have thought that 38% of first babies Martha delivered were conceived out of wedlock....highly recommended!

The letter that is attached was sent in 1934.
I have no idea if these people were relatives of the Wedel family or what. For some reason this packet was saved.
..."The Spanish rout was complete; for them it was the "Sad Night" and for us the "Night of the Victory".

The first Senate vote in the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson was taken on May 16, 1868. Article XI was called the “omnibus article” because it combined all of the charges against the President. As a result of 19 voting “Not Guilty” and 35 voting “Guilty” the Senate fell 1 vote short of the two-thirds majority required for removal. After a 10-day recess, the Senate reconvened and voted on Articles II and III. In each case, the result was identical: Johnson was not guilty by a single vote. The Senate then voted to end the trial.

Found a load of these in the derelict Everton Library in a pigeon s**t encrusted cupboard that was also covered in flaking paint and partially open to the elements. I knew local kids used to gain access into the building and cause damage, so I took them home with me. I informed Liverpool City Council about them, but they never got back to me. I also informed a Councillor in January 2005 at the inaugral meeting of the Friends of Liverpool Monuments. He told he'd look into it and get back to me. I'm still waiting. So I guess it makes me the custodian of them. They're huge documents, folding out to over 3 feet in length.

Item: The Légion d’Honneur: an order signed by Bernard-Germain de Lacépède, 1813
The Légion d’Honneur was introduced by Bonaparte to reward state and military service. It reflected one of the core values of the Napoleonic regime – meritocracy – in that in the armed forces it could be awarded to the rank-and-file as well as to officers. This order, dated 14 September 1813, bestows the honour on a certain Chaise, a gunner in the 2nd Company of the Horse Artillery of the Imperial Guard.
This document, however, is of special interest because it is signed by Bernard-Germain de Lacépède (1756-1825). Here, Lacépède is working in his capacity as the Grand Chancellor of the Légion d’Honneur, but he is more famous as one of the leading scientists of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His studies in natural history had brought him to the attention of George-Louis, comte de Buffon, who was Intendant of the royal botanical gardens in Paris before the Revolution and who gave Lacépède a post there. During the Revolution, these gardens became the Jardin des Plantes, attached to the Museum of Natural History which was founded by a law of the National Convention in June 1793. Lacépède, who fled Paris during the Terror (1793-94), was on his return appointed to the chair for the study of fish and reptiles, one of the twelve professorships endowed by the Convention’s original decree.
