San Jose State University's School of Library and Information Science is the largest of its kind in the world. Students starting the program in Fall 08 and Spring 09 completed a mandatory orientation including a section on Second Life. Most of them were able to create an avatar and visit the school's island.
Others completed a reading and quiz option. Kemp is surveying this large population and basing his dissertation on their feedback.

Диссертационная работа Мхеидзе Левана Давидовича посвящена изучению формирования и развития жанра скульптурного портрета советской Грузии в 40-60 годы прошлого столетия. Интерес представляет изучение пути развития данного жанра, сравнение более ранних произведений с произведениями данного периода, утверждение единого стиля в жанре скульптурного портрета. Художественный материал изучаемого периода – это сложное переплетение творческих поисков, неудач и находок. Кроме известных Я.И. Николаидзе и Н.П. Канделаки в художественную жизнь Грузии вступает новое поколение грузинских скульпторов – первых выпускников Тбилисской Академии художеств. Цель работы – дать возможно полную картину развития скульптурного портрета Грузии, общее представление о достижениях грузинских скульпторов, на конкретных примерах показать достижения и недостатки этого жанра и чем они обусловлены. Альбом приложений включает работы грузинских скульпторов портретистов, как признанных мастеров, так и молодых художников Я. Николадзе, Н. Канделаки, Б. Цибадзе, М. Какабадзе, М. Бардзенишвили и др. Представлено 42 портрета.
This dissertation is the study of the evolution of one monument that spans the history of the Petit Parc of Versailles from its inception under the reign of Louis XIV until the reign of Louis XVI. I focus on the Grotto of Thetis which was conceived in 1664 and remodeled as the bosquet of the Bains d'Apollon from 1777 until 1781. The framework is chronological and examines the Bains d'Apollon commission in light of the replantation of the Petit Parc of Versailles from 1774 until 1777. The major theme examines how in seventeenth garden theory, the garden was designed to give the illusion that art triumphed over nature, whereas in eighteenth century garden aesthetics, the material environment was manipulated to appear as if nature triumphed over art. The roots of the "contrived naturalism" of the Bains d'Apollon can be found in contemporary discussions of the picturesque. The opportunity to study the work of a landscape painter Hubert Robert (1733-1803) who became Dessinateur des Jardins du Roi, following the Bains d'Apollon project, provides a forum to re-examine the principles of French picturesque garden theory. I argue that the picturesque is not the product of an interaction between the two arts, but rather the product of a parallel development which is predicated on the recognition and appreciation of artifice in opposition to nature and shared by both art forms. The ramifications of picturesque garden theory are interpreted in the iconography of the Bains d'Apollon. When Hubert Robert was given the commission to create a new setting for Girardon's sculptures of Apollo Attended by the Nymphs of Thetis, the monument was designed to recall the earlier history of the Grotto of Thetis. Robert's artificial rocher exploited the myth of Mount Parnassus: Louis XVI, like his great grandfather, would bring the arts and sciences to Versailles. However, the contrived naturalism of the Bains d'Apollon stressed man's harmony with nature thus mitigating the allegorical message and its potential political power.

My project, dissertation and a short film, concentrates on exploring how sound can convey female gaze. The short film consists of four different videos and other shorter clips. Female gaze feels the seeing, shows how it feels to be the object of the gaze, and returns the gaze saying “I see you seeing me, I don’t want to be the object any longer, I want to be the subject”. Female gaze exposes and criticises male gaze’s oppression and objectification and in my short film I am focusing on the mind, the interiority associated with femininity, on the woman living under male gaze. The aspect of interiority as well as voyeuristic camera technique are used for the female character’s advantage, highlighting male gaze, showing how it feels to be an object.
Sound is used to create point-of-view and point-of-audition perspective as well as to disrupt the structures of sound design and composition. Binaural mix supports this approach.
