This is a schematic map I'm making for my dissertation. I'm drawing it based largely on some aerial photos from 1951, as well as some archival campus planning documents. East Austin was the place where black Austinites were largely segregated through mid-century. East Avenue has since been replaced with an interstate highway. Huston-Tillotson is the result of a merger of two private HBCUs. East Austin was also home to Mexican immigrants but is gentrifying these days -- plenty of hipsters; still some great taco trucks.
The dome of the capitol building and the UT tower used to dominate the Austin skyline -- The Gay Place, Bill Brammer's roman a clef on midcentury Austin, makes several references to the way the two structures drew the eye even from the edge of the city and the surrounding hills.

Диссертация Гиршовича Б.О. была успешно защищена в 1947 году и посвящена исследованию композиционного построения одной из главной улиц Санкт- Петербурга – Невскому проспекту. Работа состоит из двух томов. В первом томе автор немного знакомит читателей с историей возникновения знаменитого проспекта, подробно останавливаясь на изначальной планировке и застройке улицы. Подробно проведен анализ таких комплексов, как ансамбль Гостиного двора, площадь Казанского собора.
В приложении, которое относится к первому тому, приведен перечень зданий и сооружений от возникновения проспекта до времени написания диссертации, планы, чертежи и рисунки. Работа проиллюстрирована достаточно большим количеством фотографий, это: и копии гравюр 18 века, и фотографии проспекта 40-х годов.
Второй том уникален по исполнению - это панорамы застройки сторон Невского проспекта в масштабе 1 : 500, разработанные и уточненные по материалам государственных архивов и хранилищ.

How to Start Right: Lessons from a Second Life orientation for 1100 graduate students with Jeremy Kemp. San Jose State University's School of Library and Information Science is the largest of its kind in the world. Students starting the program in Fall 08 and Spring 09 completed a mandatory orientation including a section on Second Life. Most of them were able to create an avatar and visit the school's island.
Others completed a reading and quiz option. Kemp is surveying this large population and basing his dissertation on their feedback.
