digitized version of my previous pictures. so much more clearer don't you think?
now the double exposure is clearer... but spookier.
CastorScan is specialized in top quality scans/digitizations for international clients.
The studio works with leading artists, photographers, institutions, historical archives and collections, publishers, etc.
Our scans from colour negatives, colour positives and bw negatives for laser/led silver-halide and inkjet prints are
considered a benchmark on the international market by many.
Previously many of our clients had their scans made professionally on Hasselblad-Imacon or CREO/Kodak ccd scanners *, or on not optimized/top performing drum scanners; because of the hardware/software upgrades I made personally on our Dainippon Screen SG 8060p Mark II drum scanner, and because of a highly calibrated and profiled workflow, usually our drumscans provide higher or much higher image quality (more informations, more tonal/color transitions, very natural grain rendition, overall more "alive" look), with consequent easier post production and "objectively" improved/more natural/more pleasant prints.
Our scans are also significantly cleaner (less dust and scratches) than other types of scans, for a consequent much
faster spotting and cleaning in PS.
This hi-end efficient workflow allows maximum quality and "definitive" digitization of any type of analog archives.
We verified working with the archives of our clients, and it has been stated by scientific researches (by Henry Wilhelm
and many others), that especially color films (both negatives and positives) fade very fast also in the darkness and in
relatively well controlled temperature/humidity conditions, and this loss of information is not linear and not equal in the
3 color channels; because of that, the use of a super-sensitive reading/recording system is even more important. It's the precondition for a subsequent color re-balancing and correction.
* CCD scanners are simply not sensitive enough to record faithfully all the range of very subtle density transitions of the
films, both color negatives, color positives and bw negatives. The image look provided by a perfectly calibrated/profiled
Photomultipliers scanner is substantially more "analog", more "present", more "alive", already at low resolution.
While the grain look provided by an excellent PMT scan is natural and pleasant, CCD scanners always introduce a
considerable amount of digital artifacts and grain aliasing.
