This image of an ornate railing was taken at the "Havana Club" rum museum in 2010. I liked the painted cast iron work but hated the rundown/garbage strewn background (too real). While weeding out images I'm not going to use I came across the original image and... decided to clean it up a bit.

I grew up in tiny town in central New York State, with tree lined streets and large Victorian homes. Places like that are hard to find these days - but there is a tiny town here in Alaska that gives off those same kind of vibes, and that is where I captured this image.

Today's theme for the Flickr birthday challenge is 'artistry'. This one has several layers of art. I started with the image from one of my favorite artists Elsvo. She was one of the first friends I made on Flickr when I first was on back in probably 2008. She is an amazing artist and person. The next level is the sketch of course which I quickly did this morning when the inspiration for this image struck. The third is a little clay man I sculpted to hold the pencil so that I could get the shadows correct. The fourth is my self portrait. And finally the last is the image itself combined in photoshop.
