I received a Stofen Omnibouce diffuser with one of the used Speedlite 550EX's I bought and while it is helpful and compact, I still found it was generally too small and still too harsh, especially if the ceiling was high. I had also seen the Gary Fong globe diffuser, but that seemed almost too big and I am cheap!
So I experimented with the plastic containers I had at my disposal and found that cheap rubbing alcohol bottles make great diffusers. I measured the length for how big I wanted, and cut the bottom of the bottle off. I made the slits by measuring the dimensions of my flash head, and increased them about 1/2 inch apart.
I tried to smooth the edges with some fine sandpaper. I guess I could try my hand at slightly melting the edges now that I have a little butane pocket torch.
This is with plate diffuser included to the Nissin Di622 flash, when flash is directed staight forward.
Christmas gift from my sister. Since we're not allowed candles in the apartment, I'd been desperate for an air-freshening alternative. Thank goodness Pier 1 has these amazing reed diffusers! Not only does it smell amazing, but it looks pretty too!
She was laughing at me since I was using the top of her Tupperware cake container as a flash diffuser. Not too bad, if sold for photography use a big diffuser like that would be pretty expensive.

I made a new flash diffuser tonight. I have been dissatisfied with my other one pretty much since the first day I started using it, but I haven't been motivated to change it until I got the MP-E and have seen its flaws exposed more than ever.
I think the performance is pretty good so far with the new one. It's basically a sliced-up water jug wrapped in paper towels that attaches to the camera rather than the flash. The trick is angling the flash on the bracket to avoid causing the lens to cast a shadow on the subject. I think I'll need to get a couple more parts to fix this problem beyond 4:1. For now, though, I'm pretty happy with it. This earwig (the only test subject I could find so late) really didn't cast any shadows, and the reflections were kept to a minimum. All in all a decent effort so far, I think. I look forward to trying it in the daylight.
A sensual and bright scent created from a sumptuous and mysterious flower. A first attractive and sophisticated sensation Freesia - Mandarin. A subtle flowered heart Reine de la Nuit Orange Blossom. A rich and carnal final touch. Another edit of this, using diffuse glow - I think I then opted to "fade diffuse glow" and then used the "screen" feature. I can't exactly remember. I did it a while ago and never uploaded it because I didn't really want to plaster my photostream with the same image of...myself, haha. Anyway, I finally uploaded it for Sensual Shadows Photography, who helped with another edit. Thanks!

My women's club had our annual "year end" dinner tonight.
As president of the inter-chapter council, I was given the wrist corsage to wear, a long-stemmed rose and a gift certificate.
I was also honoured with a certificate and rose because I was chosen as the "Woman of the Year" by my own chapter.
Diffuse Knapweed, perhaps the King of Noxiousness, is one of the most aggressive weeds found on OSMP. It can be an annual or biennial plant that grows up to 2 feet tall. The small unattractive flowers are single and usually white. The seed head bracts end as sharp, ridged spines and may cause skin irritation. Knapweed is difficult to control because once the seeds are mature the plant breaks at the base of the stem and tumbles across any open ground, dispersing hundreds of seeds. It also produces a compound that inhibits the growth or germination of nearby plants and seeds that may have been able to compete with the plant for resources. OSMP is utilizing several biological controls on this weed with a goal that the insects and weeds will reach an equilibrium that results in a much lower density of diffuse knapweed.
