The concave shape was inspired by Steb1's small concave diffuser he created for his MT24 EX (Canon equivalent of Nikon's R1C1 macro flash system), you can see Steb1's equipment setup here - flic.kr/s/aHsjjHRWp5.
I molded some plastic around the end of the SB-R200 using polymorph which protuded enough to slot in a small plastic tube. The tube naturally bends into an oval shape when slotted into the plastic mold. A concave, oval shaped deodorant lid is placed in the end which has further diffusion by 2 layers of velum paper glued to the deodorant lid. Not ideal for lighting background but concentrates the light at the subject and is very portable and not clunky or oversized like previous designs.
An old plastic film container with a slot cut in the side to fit over the camera's built-in flash. Luckily I still have a few of these film cannisters around!

In this picture you can see end of diffuser in a picture.
I received a Stofen Omnibouce diffuser with one of the used Speedlite 550EX's I bought and while it is helpful and compact, I still found it was generally too small and still too harsh, especially if the ceiling was high. I had also seen the Gary Fong globe diffuser, but that seemed almost too big and I am cheap!
So I experimented with the plastic containers I had at my disposal and found that cheap rubbing alcohol bottles make great diffusers. I measured the length for how big I wanted, and cut the bottom of the bottle off. I made the slits by measuring the dimensions of my flash head, and increased them about 1/2 inch apart.
I tried to smooth the edges with some fine sandpaper. I guess I could try my hand at slightly melting the edges now that I have a little butane pocket torch.

I first had butter paper as diffuser in mind. But the problem with butter paper was,you have to apply it layer by layer. So you apply a layer, take a shot, check the diffusion.Less diffusion, add more paper.More diffusion?Less paper.
Instead I chose this.its a bio foam square dish. Here in my place we get nice cherry tomatoes in these.I had kept it way back preserved then not knowing what to do with it until now. This thing we can get in plastic/stationery shops.
I took this for 2 reasons.
1.its depth is perfect for me.Not too much and not too less.
2.This provides a bit of warmth in the flash light unlike usage of butter paper which gives a cool look.
Glue this on the support bars on the open side.Apply a thin layer at first.
Gently press the dish on the support system. If there any gaps, put some more glue and gently press on it.It will stick.Give it 5-10mins to completely dry off.
We are very close now...Next step.

The diffuser was mounted so low it would make a scraping noise every time the car entered the Karussell. I was half expecting it to fall off, but it didn't.
To eliminate hot spots from close proximity to the impulse engine LEDs diffusion panels are glued between the red impulse engine vent inserts and the light source.
