Although Realtoy have been producing diecasts since the mid 1980's it took until the early Millennium for them to go fully "legit" by producing a huge array of fully licensed castings. They seemed to just explode onto the scene in one go and at one time they were the diecast choice of many UK retailers where these highly detailed and glossily finished models often cost half the price of Matchbox and Hot Wheels yet bettered both. Sadly those glory days have long gone thanks to rising costs and the recent dominance of generic HTI's means I now know of no major retailer who stocks Realtoy. A recent bulk purchase on Ebay of some early licensed castings saw this brand enter my collection once again including this sensational Mercedes-Benz SL. Looking extremely impressive from every angle this was probably the best 1/64 version of this luxury coupe available at the time, certainly at this end of the market. Mint and boxed.

Custom made Blue Bird bird logo and roof streamer water transfers added to the roof of my diecast GMC Blue Bird school bus.

Having being used to paying 9.00 here in the UK for Hot Wheels premiums it came as rather a shock to discover I could get far superior Tomica equivalents for between just 4.00 and 5.00 whilst out in Japan! Thats not much money for such delightful diecasts such as this gorgeous classic Toyota 2000GT which just blew me away with its intricate wheels and overall high quality.

Smartly executed from every angle and complete with opening doors too.

Found at a Bic Camera store in Japan.

Its their classic American saloons and station wagons which keep bringing me back to Greenlight. Obviously not a brand available in UK retailers and thus aren't anywhere near as cheap as in the U.S. though Modelmatic sell them for 6.99 each which might sound expensive to American collectors but is actually the same price we pay for Hot Wheels premiums! From the Black Bandit series. Mint and boxed.

There was a time in the 1990's when Maisto were really top of their game in the 1/64 market. Not only were they just as good as Matchbox but were usually cheaper and had a much more interesting and varied line up. Instead of using a more predictable van, Maisto used the largely unheard of Mazda based Ford Econovan. It was seen in many different liveries, this Ambulance version dating from around 1995. Part of a 3 vehicle set sold in Woolworths under the Chad Valley brand. Mint and boxed.

Not quite the flight of fancy everyone thought as this early 1970's Matchbox truck with its wonderful pseudo futuristic styling was actually based on a real life design study! When you think of Commer you probably imagine dated PB and Walk Thru vans but the GTX was their vision of the future.

This casting of course was never ever badged as a Commer and came with this and a Petrol Tanker rear bodywork.

One diecast brand I WASN'T expecting to see in France was Teama. In fact the last time I saw any of their products was back in the mid 2000's when their small scale trucks were sold in twin packs at Poundland!

Well they are still very much alive judging by this Scania truck I found recently in a La Grande Recre. Despite its fairly cheapo appearance it is actually a fully licensed Scania product with their name cast into the front panel just below the windscreen. Mint and boxed.

When you think of Spanish produced 1/64 diecasts its invariably Guisval you might think of. They somehow survived the invasion of cheaper Far Eastern products and continue to make a sizeable range at their factory in Ibi. Sadly there is a huge graveyard of other Spanish toy companies which barely survived up until the 1990's and early 2000's such as Mira, Guiloy, Dicoys, Paya and Joal etc....

There was also a company called Gisima who briefly made a series of fairly crude models during the 1980's and early 1990's, many of which were copies of Matchbox. One trip to Spain in the early 1990's had me finding a pair of their Matchbox copying Rover SD1 3500's though stupidly I sold those some years back. They also produced their own distinctly simplified copy of the original Matchbox Volvo F10 truck seen here complete with the obligatory paper stickers so beloved of the Spanish toy makers at the time. Interestingly when you open the rear door it reveals a fully working pencil sharpener!

The overly bulbous Commer PB van was once a very common sight on our roads and unbelievably remained in production until 1982 by which time it was desperately outmoded ! Matchbox released their own version way back in the 1960's and now Oxford Diecast have one in their range and can be found in plenty of different body styles and period liveries. I already bought one of these excellent British Rail versions a while back but couldn't resist getting another one on my last recent visit to my local 2K Technologies model shop. Its cute narrow tracked proportions have been captured as well as you'd expect from Oxford with separate parts for bumpers and grilles to add to the realism. These aren't toys obviously and priced as such but the appeal of this and other models in their line up means Oxford Diecast are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. Mint and boxed.

Another Majorette duplicate courtesy of the new Vintage themed five vehicle sets now appearing at TK Maxx just weeks after sending UK collectors in a flurry with their assortment of 2019 releases. Being a duplicate justified its unpainted grey bumpers getting the chrome Molotow pen treatment instantly enhancing it to how it should have been in the first place!

As said many times before, I would have expected something far less predictable from Majorette to include in their retro Vintage series than a classic Beetle but when its done as well as this who am I to complain! ;-p

A casting which in all of its guises has had collectors very underwhelmed, this latest 2021 recolour of the 2014 Nissan NV Van looks a TINY bit more acceptable with some frontal detailing. Mint and boxed.

Aaaaand another Matchbox 1968 Citroen DS in the collection due to them becoming serious pegwarmers in France. A truly truly beautiful casting but it seems everyone who wanted one have now got them as that particular France Series has been massively over subscribed in that country. Unbelievably the upcoming mix 4 of this series has yet again this black DS!

Found recently in an E.Leclerc Jouet.

Probably better known as being sold by Rainbow Toys in the mid 1980's as an official diecast for the hit TV show Dempsey And Makepeace is the Maisto Ford Granada 2.8 GL. Obviously that version was plain blue to reflect the real vehicle but Maisto continued to make this casting well into the 1990's like this medical version which was sold under the old Chad Valley name in Woolworths! A wonderfully interesting vehicle which most British toy manufacturers shied away from which seems odd considering how successful this Granada was. Part of a 3 vehicle set. Mint and boxed.

One of my new favourite Matchbox Moving Parts casting and one which I had assumed was based on their much earlier Bentley Continental GT but is in fact all new.

Looking as stunning and classy as the real vehicle with a glossy metallic dark grey finish and front and rear tampo detailing.

Hot Wheels have been making a Lamborghini Urus for a number of years now, well before the real vehicle was finally launched to the public. That casting though was based on a concept design and so finally they have brought us a production Urus and it looks sensational. Obviously more accurate than its predecessor, its well cast with plenty of nice front and rear detailing and debuts in this bright clean all yellow colour.

It took some searching down but I finally found this example in an ASDA recently. Mint and boxed.

The good old Majorette Renault Trafic continues to give sterling service with continual additions of new colour schemes and liveries, there is no better type of casting to maximise than a panel van! Strictly speaking this white Construction Service variant isn't new but its certainly new to Morrisons where it can now be found as a single as part of the Construction branded sub series.

Still looking modern after all these years its a wonderful little model van complete with clear plastic lights and best of all a fully sliding side cargo door. Mint and boxed.

Majorette Audi R8 Spyder now available in a three vehicle set being found at TK Maxx. A Street Cars casting which is considered their budget "basic" line yet systematically outshines any Hot Wheels and Matchbox equivalent. Mint and boxed.

With a drought of new Realtoy models to be found at the moment I have turned my attention to the older Action City stuff which are still plentiful on Ebay. This Ford Bronco harks back to a time when all their castings were unlicensed but still realistic in appearance and liveries. A nice crisp casting which captures the chunky styling of the old Bronco. Part of a five vehicle set. Mint and boxed.
