Still one of my all time favourite Maisto Fresh Metal castings and one I still can't leave behind whenever I see them on the pegs which of course very rarely happens here in the UK but more often abroad.

Strangely a newer green recolour appeared in some countries a year or so ago but for Europe this debut orange and white one is all thats on offer! Priced to undercut a basic HW and MBX cost cutting is evident but well disguised thanks to a really crisply cast body, intricate front and rear detailing and gorgeous era appropriate wheels.

Found recently at an Alcampo hypermarket in Spain.

The night sky was lit up by the big arc lamps, beckoning people to finish up their chores and head out to the fair grounds.

This is a slightly stylized view of the past.

More of a mood piece than an exact recreation.

The only light source is a 60 watt bulb in front of the models and aimed up at the background.

The background consists of a piece of board with gray textured paint sprayed on it and is about a foot away from the actual set.

Although this model is modelled on the previous generation MINI EV it still has the same cheeky aura of the real one I picked up at the start of this week and thus even more welcomed into my collection. Finished in a signature Chili red colour with contrasting black wheels it sets quite a dash and is probably my favourite colour so far given to this casting.

Depressingly its upper body is of the one piece plastic variety but detailing really is top notch; the tampo machine hitting the front, rear and the opening "frunk".

On the Mt Olympus of automotive gods, no names are more revered than those of Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz.

On January 29, 1886 Benz submitted a Patent application for his “vehicle with gas operation” to the Imperial Patent Office giving it what the company today, calls the birth certificate of the first automobile and the name Benz Patent Motorwagen.

Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach developed their one cylinder, “Grandfather Clock” engine in 1884. They install it in the 1885 Daimler Reitwagen or Riding Car. On August 28, 1885 Daimler is awarded the Patent for “vehicle with gas or petroleum drive machine”. We would say, the world’s first motorcycle.

It looks more like something from Leonardo DaVinci’s workshop in the 15th or 16th century than a product of the industrial revolution of the 19th century.

Just a few months after Benz patents his Motorwagen, Daimler installs a 1.1 hp version of his grandfather clock engine into a 4 seat coach to create the first gas powered car with four wheels to reach 10 MPH.

It is not until 1926 that the two companies merge to form Daimler-Benz AG. It is also in 1926 that the 3 pointed star emblem first appears.

Both models are 1/8 scale and made by Franklin Mint.

Now, we suspect there are a few of you saying, “Wait one minute there. What are you guys trying to pull? Isn’t this the same script from a couple of weeks ago?”

Not quite, this photo is in color so you can appreciate more of the wonderful details these models have to offer. You may notice, there is no foreground tree shadow either, making your viewing just a little easier as well.

We also saved one juicy factoid for this post. Did you notice? Did you know? The Benz Patent Motorwagen was also the first car with rack and pinion steering. Look closely and you can see the toothed rack attached to the front wheel. The steering pillar has a pinion gear at the base, completing the connection between the steering lever and wheel.

There are more 1:64 diecast models of the Rolls Royce Cullinan than you might have initially thought. Pretty much all of them hail from Chinese factories and probably none are actually licensed despite some of the premium ones having Rolls Royce badging!

Chimei haven't dare badge their budget offering and its probably just as well as it doesn't deserve recognition except for the very few collectors in the World like myself who actually actively seek out low end diecasts!

If you ever dare wonder what a Hot Wheels Rolls Royce Cullinan would look like then this is probably the closest thing you'll ever get with its HW style wheels, simplistic casting style and all over racing themed liveries.
