The dunlin (Calidris alpina) is a small wader, sometimes separated with the other "stints" in Erolia. The English name is a dialect form of "dunling", first recorded in 1531–2. It derives from dun, "dull brown", with the suffix -ling, meaning a person or thing with the given quality.[2] The genus name is from Ancient Greek kalidris or skalidris, a term used by Aristotle for some grey-coloured waterside birds. The specific alpina is from Latin and means "of high mountains", in this case referring to the Alps.[3]
It is a circumpolar breeder in Arctic or subarctic regions. Birds that breed in northern Europe and Asia are long-distance migrants, wintering south to Africa, southeast Asia and the Middle East. Birds that breed in Alaska and the Canadian Arctic migrate short distances to the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America, although those nesting in northern Alaska overwinter in Asia. Many dunlins winter along the Iberian south coast.
Researchers have discovered that young White-crowned Sparrows sing in regional dialects, learned in the areas where they hatch and return each year for nesting. Male White-crowned Sparrows can become "bilingual"
Across the subarctic and arctic portions of this bird’s range, they nest in the tundra and have limited options on where to put their nests. As a result, they often put their nests on the ground. The ground nests are hidden among mats of lichens, ground-hugging shrubs, and mosses.

BALMA BOVES, glimpses. It is a small agricultural village complete with houses, stables, chicken coops, tool sheds, inhabited until 1961, built under a large "balma" (rock in the local dialect). Bracco Mount, Po Valley, Piedmont, ITALY.

The local dialect is a variety of Lombard with similarities to neighboring dialects of Romansh. The Bregaglia Range is a popular mountaineering destination, and includes such peaks as Monte Disgrazia, Piz Cengalo and Piz Badile.
Everytime I come in this place, especially in autumn, I marvel at this view on Mount Pegherolo with larches all around me.
The pasture in front of me is bordered by ancient dry-stone walls called "barek" in the Bergamo dialect; it may sound like as "barricade" in english language.

Gofafjellet is an hill just 50 meters away from our cottage at Gautestad, Evje, Norway. During our time up here in the highlands of Norway, I have been up here countless times with my coffee, camera gears and the dog. Enjoy sitting here en watch the sunrise, the colors, sounds of the birds and the peace, hided away from everything. The name "Gofafjellet" means on the local dialect - Grandfathers mountain.

Meaning 'surrounded by mountains' in the ancient dialect of the island's original Guache inhabitants, the white-washed houses of the hamlet of Taganana stand out amidst the lush green peaks of the Anaga Rural Park and the contrasting blue of the Atlantic Ocean. The Anaga massif, whose history like much of the island of Tenerife is volcanic, stretches from Cruz del Carmen to Punta de Anaga on the island's north-eastern tip.
Taganana is known to be one of the oldest settlements on the island and it is believed that it is its relatively remote location in the Anaga massif which has spared it from destructive mass tourism over the past fifty years. In fact, the area around Taganana and along this stretch of coastline is home to a whole range of different dispersed settlements, including some whose populations remain below 100 to this day.

Friburgo es símbolo de convivencia entre culturas, y cuenta con uno de los centros históricos medievales mejor conservados de Europa.
Bañada por el río Sarine ejerce como Röstigraben, la frontera lingüística y cultural entre la zona francófona y la alemana. Una escultura de bloques de piedra representa cada una de ellas, mientras los 15 puentes son símbolo de convivencia entre ambas culturas.
Ubicada en un promontorio rocoso y rodeada de acantilados de hasta 50 metros de altura, hay que ir descubriendo paso a paso la herencia de la que fue una de las ciudades medievales más grandes de Europa. Fundada en 1157 por el duque Bertholdo IV de Zähringen. De la muralla de dos kilómetros de extensión que protegió a la ciudad en aquella época, aún se pueden contemplar algunas torres y otros restos de un gran bastión. Mientras a lo largo del paseo van apareciendo las más de 200 fachadas góticas del siglo XV, que hacen del casco antiguo de Friburgo un lugar encantado y encantador. Según vamos caminando, todavía es posible escuchar a las personas mayores, el "bolze", un dialecto que mezcla francés y alemán.

Waded through a bank of nettles in my shorts to get closer to this chap / or chappess - as they both look so similar. One of the UK's rarest Dragonflies and more or less restricted to the Norfolk Broads, along with the Swallowtail Butterfly.
Find the Canon 100-400 II is a really good Dragonfly macro lens - you can fill the frame at MFD and still stay far enough away not to spook the critters.

View of the north side of the "Tre Cime di Lavaredo" (three peaks of Lavaredo, Drei Zinnen), one of the most famous mountains in the Dolomites. Near the alpine hut "Langalm" (known as "Long-Olbe" in the South Tyrolian dialect), traditional prayer flags form Nepal and Tibet were fastened, almost giving the feeling of being in the Himalayas !
The hut is located at an altitude of 2283 m.
In 2009 the Dolomites were added to the Unesco world heritage list as UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

L'Hellébore fétide, Ellébore fétide ou Pied-de-griffon (Helleborus foetidus L.) est une plante vivace de la famille des Ranunculaceae et du genre Helleborus. C’est la seule espèce de la section Griphopus.
Le nom hellébore semble venir du terme « helibar » ou « helebar » tiré d'un dialecte sémitique qui signifirait : remède contre la folie. L'hellébore fétide était en effet utilisé contre les troubles psychiques, mais cette utilisation est à proscrire en raison de sa toxicité qui peut entraîner la mort. Elle est qualifiée de fétide en raison de l'odeur repoussante de la plante quand on la touche.
L'Hellébore fétide est aussi appelé : rose de serpent, patte d'ours, mords-cheval, herbe printanière, favalau.
L'écriture Helleborus fœtidus est fautive. En effet, les noms scientifiques sont réputés latins mais ils s'écrivent toujours sans ligature. L'écriture valable est donc Helleborus foetidus.

The term Vucciria is a dialectal corruption of the French word boucherie, which means butcher's shop. It is in fact in this market, precisely the "Vucciria", that, at the time of the Angevins, the slaughter of animals took place. Later it also became a fish and fruit market.
Today, unfortunately, the Vucciria is languishing a lot and in the little square that you see in this shot the only ones left are the street food vendors (meat, offal and all sorts of things are roasted on the grill and served to tourists).
The old market, however, comes alive at night for the movida and welcomes all sorts of young people looking for a beer and something to eat.
Honestly, I don't think it's a very popular place at night, with so many "hot heads" ready to steal and fight.

The Swedish composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger had a summer house (and from 1930 a permanent home) on the island. In 1896 Peterson-Berger composed a set of piano pieces entitled Frösöblomster (Flowers of Frösön), and his opera Arnljot from 1910 is partly based on the runic inscriptions on Frösö Runestone.

Se cree que su nombre procede del vocablo latino traco(onis) (traconaria, dragonera) que significa "hendidura en la tierra, resquebrajamiento, pasos subterráneos" haciendo referencia a la hendidura con agua dulce en una cueva de la isla, y no –en contra de lo que parece– a "dragones" (que es el nombre que se da a las lagartijas en Baleares).

Muggia is an Italian town in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia on the border with Slovenia. Lying on the eastern flank of the Gulf of Trieste, Muggia is the only Italian port town in Istria. The town's architecture is marked by its Venetian and Austrian history, and its harbour hosts a modern 500-berth marina for yachts (Porto San Rocco). Muggia originated as a prehistoric fortified village (castelliere), around 8th-7th century BC. The territory was conquered in 178–177 BC by the Romans, who created here a settlement. In 1420 it became part of the Republic of Venice and in 1797, Muggia became part of the Austrian Empire. After World War I and the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, the town was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy and incorporated into the Province of Trieste. Muggia provides many evident traces of its Venetian traditions and origin, as showed by the dialect, the gastronomic traditions, the gothic-venetian style of some houses, the loggias, the ogive arches, the ancient coats of arms on the façades but mostly the main square, a true Venetian "campiello".

Muggia - miejscowość we Włoszech na półwyspie Istria, w regionie Friuli-Wenecja Julijska, w prowincji Triest. Jest jedynym włoskim miastem portowym na półwyspie Istria. W architekturze miasta dominują wpływy weneckie i austriackie, zaś w porcie znajduje się nowoczesna przystań dla jachtów z 500 miejscami postojowymi (Porto San Rocco). Muggia powstała jako prehistoryczna ufortyfikowana wioska (castelliere) około VIII-VII wieku p.n.e. Obszar ten został podbity w latach 178–177 p.n.e. przez Rzymian, którzy stworzyli tutaj osadę. W 1420 r. Muggia stała się częścią Republiki Weneckiej, a w 1797 r. weszła w skład Cesarstwa Austriackiego. Po I wojnie światowej i rozpadzie Austro-Węgier miasto zostało przyłączone do Królestwa Włoch i włączone do prowincji Triest. W Muggii można znaleźć wiele śladów weneckich tradycji i kultury, o czym świadczą dialekt, tradycje gastronomiczne, gotycko-wenecki styl niektórych domów, loggie, ostrołuki, starożytne herby na fasadach, ale przede wszystkim główny plac, prawdziwe weneckie „campiello”.

As I took this photo from this shed an old man on bicycle stopped next to me. I heavy local dialect he asked me what I was taking photos of.
I told him of the shed, because I like it and because it has the same roof tiles as my house. I told him my house was built in 1933 and I wondered how old the shed might be.
He said: "Well, I can tell you, because my father built it in 1922." Pretty good timing to get the info you want right away!

Camogli (Camuggi in Genoese dialect) is a small Italian fishing village and tourist resort located on the west side of the peninsula of Portofino, on the Golfo Paradiso at the Riviera di Levante, in the province of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. Early 18th Century gritstone guide stoop on the heather clad Beeley Moor in the Derbyshire Peak District. With Pointing Fingers to aid the traveller aiming for Chatsworth, Bakewell, Chesterfield or Offerton (the local dialect name for Alfreton). The ancient packhorse holloway to Chesterfield is still visible through the heather.
