Shaven heads and orange robes actually pre-date Buddhism by many centuries. In Vedic culture a person dressed according to his or her social and spiritual position. Simple robes, although external, have traditionally been worn to help cultivate humility and freedom from vanity.

I think Judaism is a remarkably intellectual religion, as this observant man was reading on the subway.
The three Osprey pairs at the river have been sitting eggs now for several weeks. Typically, three eggs are laid with an incubation period of 32-43 days. Both the male and female take on nesting duties, however the female sits more while the male brings food. I've tried not to disturb the most accessible of the nests during this period, although we do drive by almost daily and are accustomed to seeing just the top of the Osprey head. Last evening, the female was on the rim of the nest. The male soon joined her offering I'm not sure what little tidbit he had pulled from the adjacent creek feeding into the river. I believe we should see a change in activity in about another week and a half when the first of the eggs hatch.

Hwaseong Fortress was constructed as an act of filial devotion by Jeongjo, the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty (1392~1910), and to strengthen his power, eradicate party conflict, and fortify the southern area of the capital.
Construction began in January 1794 and completed in September 1796 under the supervision of Chae Je-gong, a former minister and the magistrate of Yeongjungchubu County. During construction, equipment such as the Geojunggi, a type of traditional Korean crane, and potters’ wheels were developed and used to transport and assemble large stones.
The fortress suffered partial damage during Japanese colonial rule and the Korean War, but most of its original features have been restored with the help of the Hwaseong Seongyeokuigwe, the construction archive published in 1801 after the fortress was completed. The fortress sprawls over both flat and hilly terrain, something seldom seen in neighboring China and Japan. It is designed to serve political and commercial as well as military functions and is a fine example of oriental fortresses.
The Hwaseong Fortress envelops downtown Suwon City in a huge ellipse running a total of 5.74 km. There are 41 existing facilities along the perimeter, including four cardinal gates (Paldalmun, Janganmun, Changnyongmun, and Hwaseomun), one sumun (floodgate), four ammun (secret gates), four jeokdae (gateguard platforms), two gongsimdon (observation towers), two jangdae (command posts), two nodae (multiple-arrow-launcher platforms), five pora (firearms bastions), five poru (sentry towers), four gangnu (angle towers), one bongdon (beacon tower), and nine chi (bastions). Each structure well harmonizes architectural splendor and function on a key strategic spot.
The entire fortress has been designated Historical Site #3, and other cultural properties include Paldalmun Gate (Treasure #402), Hwaseomun Gate (Treasure #403), Janganmun Gate and Gongsimdon. Hwaseong was registered on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage in December 1997.
